Tony Danza is currently in preliminary discussions to play the role of Max in THE PRODUCERS. It would be a three month run, from December to February.
No joke.

Ok then, what would Leo call him at the end?
Has-has-has been?

Posted: 11/17/06 at 3:01pmI wonder how they'll alter the finale. "Leo and Tony" doesn't have the same rhythm as "Leo and Max"

Posted: 11/17/06 at 3:03pmI'm really surprised the Weissler's never grabbed him for Chicago. At least I think Billy is a better fit.

Posted: 11/17/06 at 3:04pmI saw the headline "Danze to head to the land of has-beens" and I thought "Oh, he's going to be in CHICAGO!" Wrong!

Tony is very talented and I can see him pulling off a good Max... but a better Billy Flynn in CHICAGO

Posted: 11/17/06 at 3:09pmWhile I admit, Chicago the 80's tv star Broadway Extravaganza, might be a better fit. Why not? He may not be awful at all, and will probably be a fresh take on the role. Considering they aren't taking the obvious casting choices for Max, if they wanted to stunt cast it, they might as well go for the lest obvious choice in the free world.

He would be a better Billy in Chicago but I would love to see him as Max just for fun :)
Can he even sing?

Yeah he can sing and tap dance. He wouldn't let anyone forget during his illfated talk show.
And I'm sorry but a part of me thinks that Mel has his tounge in his cheek when approving these casting changes. I can see him making fun of himself and us and loving it.

I can picture him in the role. But I can picture him better as Billy in CHicago.
Why didn't Hasselhoff do the show on broadway? That would've brought in more people!

Tony plays "Tony" in everything he does. So if they're looking for an Italian from Brooklyn telling stories about his family, who think's he can sing like Sinatra and slips in a few lightweight boxing moves and calls it dancing...then Tony Danza is perfect....for a laugh.
His one man show highlighting what he's all about was little more than "Taxi in a Tux". (He could also use a few lessons in manners).

Is he nice in person?
And what happened to his talk show? Was it cancelled?

yeah it was cancelled. I personally didn't like his talkshow but I loved him. He seemed so sweet.
