Tony Parties

Since I will not be attending the Tony Awards this year was wondering if anyone knew of cool parties?

I love New York Theater

re: Tony Parties

Well, I'll just be going to the coolest party: on my living room couch, in my pajamas, with a tape in the VCR and a remote in my hand to cut out commercials. HAHAHAHAHA And I get NY1, so I get to watch the red-carpet also! Maybe I'll splurge and order a pizza.
I love award show days...especially the Tony's! But I prefer staying home and watching them by myself, with no interruptions. Then, after they're over, I go back and watch my favorite moments again and again. :)

re: re: Tony Parties

my tony evening consists of watching the pre-show on the tony site, then recording the awards, also editing out the commercials, and ejoying/lamenting over each perfromance and hoping that those who deserve to win actually win.... oh wait, i should say EARN rather than win.

I don't get it - what do you mean Tony Parties? Do you mean real organised ones or just fun ones?

We don't even get the Tonys on TV here.

I don't know of any cool parties you can go to, but if you have friends who love Broadway and live close by, you can make your own party. Get together, pick a theme if you want from your favorite nominated show (this can extend to costume wearing and the food you serve), and watch the awards together. It's more fun to throw things at your T.V. set with friends around you than to be screaming in you room by yourself re: re: re: re: Tony Parties

Where do you live Jake? England? Like me.

I'm actually starting to get really pissed we never get to see the Tony's. I mean there's the video footage on the net, and live coverage, but because of the time difference I can never see that.

They really should televise them over here. I mean I know we get ther Oliver (I hope I spelt that right.) awards. Which is London theatre, but the Tony's is SO much better.

*sigh* Broadway rocks.

I plan on starting by watching tapes of past Tony's and building up to the internet footage and LIVE BROADCAST!

Can't wait. I'll just sit back and relax while my boyfriends and his friends play games at the LAN party I'm going to have for him. But shhhhhh!!! It's a surprise!

None of my friends are into the whole theatre thing...so I'll be sitting at home watching- and possibly throwing things at the TV like someone said before. I may be able to get my friend to come watch...I'm working on it- she is hooked on Hairspray-kinda....sooo

W3B,
How truly sorry I am that you and all the other British theatre lovers don't get the Tony's aired in your country. I have always just assumed they were broadcast everywhere. What a special treat you are missing. I've not missed a Tony show on TV since they first aired in 1967, and the first words out of the emcee's mouth were: "Ladies and Gentlemen, CABARET!" And then Joel Grey and Company performed "Willkommen." It was like a cannon ball went off in my gut. I was hooked and watched year after year to see the Broadway casts perform scenes from their shows. Now I record the shows and have a whole Tony library to look back on whenever I'm in the mood. BUT, the important issue is: What can we do to get the Tony show aired in England. Actually, W3B, the ratings are so bad in the U.S. that I'm surprised they haven't yanked the show off the air.

Yes, it is indeed veeeeeery sad that we don't get the Tony's televised over here.

It's annoying, because even if I mention them in passing to some like, 'Oh! It's the Tony's tonight!' They're like, 'The what's?!?' And I have to explain.

I've only really seen the Oliver awards for the past 2 years, and although they're honouring British Theatre they're pretty boring.

I can't remember they're ever being a performance from a show or anything like that. Just a cerimoney.

The way I get to see scene's and songs from my favorite shows. (Apart from seeing them.)Is when they televise the Royal Variety Performance.
If anyone doesn't know what that is, it's this big VARIETY show for I think it's Prince Charleses birthday. Or it could be the Queen's husband-What's his name? (Okay, showing my non-existant grasp of MY Royal family info. lol)

And they have commedians, circus acts, etc, AND piece's from shows that are playing in the West End at the time. So I always tape them. The nI can skip all the other stuff and get to the showtunes baby!

Tony Parties

I'm going to the TalkinBroadway Tony Party on Saturday... Im doing matinee of Chicago, Tony Party, Evening show of Chicago... then Chicago the following evening (Tony night), while leaving my aunt with the strict instructions that if Michele (Pawk) or John (Dossett) should win, she is to call me. :)
