I don't know if anyone has talked about this, but I thought I would start, as I am bored. What does everyone think will be the performances shown at this year's awards ceremony from what you think will be nominated.

La Cage Aux Folles
the title number (i don't think the two leads will be nominated and I don't think they'd repeat a number they did when the show was first nominated)

Spamalot
Find Your Grail or Knights of the Round Table

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Dirty Rotten Number

Spelling Bee
Pandemonium

Little Women (if it gets nominated, which I don't think it will)
Astonishing/Days of Plenty

No, this is a great time to start pondering. Nominations are around the corner...

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

LA CAGE
the LA CAGE number to let the girls strut their stuff - would be a great way to open the show! Or a combo of the title number & Gary doing I AM WHAT I AM

SWEET CHARITY
havent seen yet

SPAMALOT
David Hyde Pierce's 2nd act show stopper

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS
Great Big Stuff
Ruprect
or the Dirty Rotten #

SPELLING BEE
havent seen yet

LIGHT IN THE PIAZA (asuming the tony nominating comittee goes this boring route)
The final song or the title song.

CHITTY (asuming it is nominated)
Not sure, havent seen it yet.

LITTLE WOMEN (asuming it may be nominated)
Astonishing/Five for all Forever/or Days of Pleanty!

PACIFIC OVERATURES
a canned video from that show.

I don't know how long this number is, but I would like to see Spamalot perform "Knights of the Round Table". I think that is hilarious in the movie, and people will recognize it. Then again, maybe they'll perform something that nobody has heard before.

DRS will probably perform "Dirty Rotten Number", perhaps in conjunction with something else (maybe "Great Big Stuff"). I would like to see "The More We Dance" because I loved the dancing in that!

Little Women will probably perform "Astonishing" because it is the hit song of the show, but I think something that features the group will be nicer.

"Piazza" has two Zs.

"Overtures" has no A.

PIAZZA should do "Fable", although it might not work too well out of context (see last year's performance of "Lot's Wife").

While Fable was BRILLIANT, and definitely one of the best moments of the show, I think they should do the title number. Or maybe something else... Fable WOULD be another Lot's Wife. Wouldn't be the same out of context.

I hope DRS does Ruprecht or Great Big Stuff or Love is My Legs or something... I don't want them to do the Dirty Rotten Number.

[title of show] on Broadway. it's time. believe.

Do people really think overture is pronounced and spelt "overAture?"

You must accept these things. We aren't going to agree on everything, although we do agree on 95% of shows. These things happen. Let go and let God!

Let God?!

Darling the way I'm feeling right now, I'm willing to let God do anything he f*cking wants. Then maybe I'll start believing in him.

not making judgements on who will be nominated and thus perform, just what songs i think would work.

I think that "The Beauty Is" might work the best of the Piazza songs when taken out of context- maybe they can combine Clara's part and Margaret's reprise somehow, cuz Im sure theyll want to highlight Victoria Clark but I agree, I think Fable would be a poor choice even if its the most obvious.

Spamalot, Id like to see David Hyde Pierce's song as well- it was one of my favs, but it would all depend on whose nominated and they may want to push Tim Curry the most.

La Cage, i would just wanna see one of the big dance routines the Les Cagelles do- could be a challenge.

All Shook Up... not sure... most of them would be crowd pleasers anyway.

I think La Cage will probably opt for "The Best of TImes" as it is less of a hassle to move just one set and one set of costumes to Radio City, the title number requires more scenery and many more costumes, not to mention the quick changes which are probably more complicated to do with so many more people and sets around than the usual in the theater.

I predict Sweet Charity will do "If my friends could see me now" but only if Christina Applegate is nominated,, otherwise they might try "Big Spender" instead. I could come up with a more creative post but I'm braindead at the moment. . .

THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA -- "Statues and Stories" (it's gorgeous and involves a lot of the ensemble)

SPELLING BEE -- "Pandemonium"

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS -- "Dirty Rotten Number"

SPAMALOT -- "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" or "Knights of the Round Table" (the producers are NOT going to put Hyde-Pierce's "You Won't Succeed on Broadway" on the telecast -- it may be seen as offensive to some people out of context, one of the reasons THE PRODUCERS didn't do "Springtime for Hitler" on the Tonys ... in addition to wanting to not give away the surprises and jokes to such a big showcase number on national TV)

SWEET CHARITY -- "I'm A Brass Band" (they'll want to do a BIG company number because that's what sells tickets -- as weak and tentative as Applegate is vocally, they're NOT going to do "If They Could See Me Now")

LA CAGE -- "We Are What We Are" (which is what they did on the Tonys back in 1986)

PACIFIC OVERTURES -- probably a video montage since it's closed (if they do a clip of a single number, probably "The Advantages of Floating in the Middle of the Sea" or "Next")

I thought "Pandemonium" was a weak point of Spelling Bee, but maybe it's been cleaned up since then.

And if I could pick a number for Pacific Overtures to do, it would be "Someone in a Tree," but I don't know if that would work out of context. Not to mention the fact that they probably won't get a live number.

If they get nominated:

Dirty Rotten SCoundrels - Dirty Rotten Number

Spamalot - ALways look on the birght side of life or kinghts of the round table

Spelling Bee - pandemoniun.... OR it would be really cool if they did a little piece of the openeing song.... pulled some random celeb up, gave the a bogus word, and ended with the goodbyes.

All Shook Up - Can't help fallin in love, or heartbreak hotel

...Piazza - i havent seen it

Revivals

La Cage - something to showcase the Cagelles

Sweet Charity - I'm a brass band or Big Spender

Pacific Overtures won't get to do a number

SPAMALOT will definitely do KNIGHT OF THE ROUND TABLE becuase the whole cast is in it, and Sara Ramirez is featured doing her very funny Liza-meets-Beyonce-meets-Cher Vegas diva thing.

Hopefully, Chitty will be nominated and do the title number. This would help the dwindling ratings as people outside of our circles could finally relate to Bway again!

I really think that Spamalot will do "You won't succeed on Broadway." They may mix it with something else, especially something featuring Sara Ramirez. I wouldn't be surprised if it was some combo of songs.

And I'd bet good money the DRS performance will spotlight Norbert.

I'd love to see Chitty do "Me Ol' Bamboo." I just want to see Raul dance.

I was thinking that Spelling Bee should do Dan Fogler's "Magic Foot" number.
