The red carpet usually stretches down 6th Ave to the left of Radio City Music Hall. The closest you can get is right across the street, where barricades will be set up (people usually start lining up against the barricade several hours before the red carpet even starts). But, when the cars pull up, usually the performers get out on the sidewalk and not the street-side, so they may be difficult to identify from across the street. I remember in 2013, Tom Hanks got out on the street side and waved to the people across the street, and Cuba Gooding Jr. climbed up onto the top of his car and did a little dance.
"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage."
