Jodie, I couldn't agree more. Tony Sheldon has lit up the West End stage this past year and I feel so lucky to have seen him play Bernadette on so many occasions. I would go out of my way to see anything he does in the future. Lets hope it includes Priscilla on Broadway. He absolutely deserves the chance to take her to NY. I hope we see he back in the West End too where he now totally belongs.
After having written Tony a letter and giving it to him on his final day with a gift, i was lucky enough to recieve a postcard from the great man himself...saying things look pretty positive that he may take Bernadette to Canada later in the year...*RUNS OFF TO TRY AND FIND CHEAPEST FLIGHTS TO CANADA*
Tony was robbed at the Olivier's tonight. He was the BEST actor in a musical as he should have been at the WOS awards. Brilliant performance; here's hoping for a Tony for Tony on Broadway!!
I don't know who makes up the voting panel for the Olivier awards but they certainly have not seen Priscilla or they would not have voted for Spring Awakening's lead instead of Tony. I will never understand how he did not win. How is it everyone who has seen the show say how brilliant he is (I heard so many wonderful comments while I was there and have read so many positive things on forums and websites etc) so how could he not win?! What is wrong with these people? He is a male actor playing the part of a woman so well that the majority of the audience don't know he is a man - that is real acting!! Obviously the Olivier panel wouldn't know a good actor if a one walked up and slapped them in the face! Such a travesty!
Award or no award, those of us who were privileged to see him know what a great performance Tony gave night after night. In my 20+ years of theatre going I cannot remember seeing many other performances which had such a profound effect on me.
Tony and the cast in the latest video by cast member John Brannoch. This one is a montage of backstage & rehearsal footage set to McArthur park. Truly fabulous!!
I see Tony is all but confirmed to make his Broadway debut. Is everyone like me thinking this is just what he deserves having given so much to this production?
And damn them for making such a long-drawn out saga of getting him on board! Let's hope this time next year Mr Sheldon will be garnering reviews akin to Mr Hodge's.
I am so thrilled and excited to her the news finally confirmed that Tony will get to reprise his brilliant performance as Bernadatte both in Toronto and on Broadway. It is no mroe than he deserves and I for one will make the trip to NY next spring to see him fulfil another dream, his Broadway debut to add to to his West End premiere.
I can't wait to see how the show works in the US. One thing is for sure, that with Tony on board it has every chance of being a big success.
