Mr. DiPietro had heard the Rutgers Student who killed himself after being secretly taped by his roomate, play in a production of I LOVE YOU.....
And has spoken out according to the New York Post:
"What kind of creepy kids would record someone in the privacy of their home and then post it for some sort of intended public humiliation?" DiPietro said, "As a gay man, and a graduate of Rutgers, class of '84, my heart breaks for this young man"
Good for him, way to go Joe.

"a practical joke that went wrong"?? that's putting it mildly. how could anyone think this wouldn't go wrong? how did they not think it would devastate a person once they found out? and i don't care that they were 18 yrs old. one would hope that by college age, the differences between right and wrong, decent and immoral are pretty clear.
Joe DiPietro has gained some serious points in my book. This suicide has touched me more than any previously. Such a shame.

Besides his questionable writing ability, Joe is actually a really cool guy.

Everyone's writing ability is questionable. But I think his multiple Tonys could be his answer to your questions.

This isn't about that, it's about speaking out for gay youth, and helping people in need. That puts him far ahead of many others in our community.
