Do you think that that's going to be awfully disjointed? I just feel someone should be the person linking it all together. It's a cute idea, 60 presenters for the 60th. Or, I don't know - was there some sort of problem and it is just something cute to cover not being able to get one single host?

I thiunk that it might be awkward, usually when something goes wrong during an awards show backstage or something, they send the host on. I wonder what will happen if something goes wrong this year.

It has the possibility to be that way...but the current Tony Directors & Producers, who have produced the show the last 2 yrs and quite top knotch and I really don't think they'll just let this be some ho-hum non-event. They know how to make the show sparkle like no other Producers or Directors before them...so hopefully the 60 yrs 60 presenter gimmick will be a fruitful one. I can't wait for the opening number!

Last years I thought was below average, one of the more boring awards show I have seen. I stil must say I am a big fan of the 2004 Opening Number.

Have to disagree Monk...while I did prefer the 2004 Cermony itself to the 2005 affair...they are incrediably produced and impecably directed in my opinion. They've won an Emmy Award for their brilliant 2004 production. I have every faith that this years telecast & ceremony will be wonderfully crafted as well.
The 2004 & 1998 openning numbers of "TONYS TAKE IT AWAY" & "ONE NIGHT ONLY" were two of the best open's in recent memory I believe. Very interested to see what they come up with this year.

LaCage I had the same thought....if they're touting the 60 hosts gimmick wouldn't it be cool if they had a big 60 person opening number?

A host to introduce presenters just uses up valuable time even when very entertaining (like Nathan Lane.) With last year's broadcast clocking in a 2hours 12 minutes (once commmercials were edited out) a host is something we can do without. But the presenters should do their own introductions. That new announcer is horrible and she fumbles a lot. What happened to Les Marshak?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

The best years were the years that Rosie hosted. The 1997 telecast was fantastic.

97 was indeed a fine year - and I too would have preferd a ROSIE hosted telecast this year, but we work with what we got...so I'm interested and full of hope.

They couldn't find a host so all they had to do was just use a lot of presenters. I would prefer a host, but this should be interesting.

Actually the best Tonys by far that I remember were hosted by Angela Lansbury who did several ceremonies in the 80s. She exuded class lent the proceedings a sophistication and sense of elegance that have been missing ever since. She was also quite witty and lit up the stage with her easy-going presense. And who can forget her classic performance of "Bosom Buddies" with Bea Arthur? There was never a better host, though Tony Randall was also quite good as was Nathan Lane. I thought Rosie was fine in small doses -- I found her grating (and why does that woman insist on singing in public???). And I think I'm alone in finding Jackman bland (and his "One Night Only" a jaw-droppingly awful embarassment -- I remember muting my tv about halfway through).

This is really bad news. There has to be a "presence" to open and close the show. No host is a bomb. The only thing worse was the year the show was done in Bonnie Franklin's head.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
