Upset that I never saw LaChanze.
The first time I saw Ragtime, I saw it with the original cast - except for Audra...Her Understudy was on...and the second time, LaChanze had just left...so I saw her replacement.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Posted: 6/24/05 at 1:54amI saw her go on twice as the understudy for Audra and did not like her at all. Her voice was not rich enough. It was actually annoyingly bright(I was thinking Annie during her performance). When I got to the theater the second time I saw Tonya and saw that not only Audra was out but I had to see the same lousy understudy I thought it was a cruel joke...Audra had about five understudies so getting the same one I disliked again. I saw LaChanze once and she was wonderful. Any other time I saw Ragtime on Broadway and on tour I saw Sarah understudies and they were all top notch. Sorry to disappoint you. I have heard that Tonya has done some amazing work but Sarah was not her best.

I wouldn't know, I actually saw Tonya's understudy when the she was playing Fantine on tour in Philadelphia. Her understudy was great but talk about ironic.
