re: Top 10 Living Theatrical Legends

How is Jennifer Holliday a Theatrical Legend?

I think perhaps there should be a different list for legendary performances. Streisand and Holliday both qualify for that, but I don't think either is a theatrical legend unto themselves.

re: Top 10 Living Theatrical Legends

no Carol Burnett?

How are we measuring this, what standards?

I know when I went to to NYC for the first time there was a show we got to see and Ms. Burnett was in it and I just kept feeling like I was so lucky to see a Broadway Legend in possibly one of her last shows on the great white way - I dunno if it's fair to mark it by their number of Tony's or commercial success. I think people like Jennifer Holliday are people who are going to be remembered forever as being a part of paving the way for a new era of shows or a new crop of performers that didn't have a place on Broadway before that.

Does that make any sense?

I just want to throw in another vote for Jerry Herman (I can't believe we're this far into the thread and he's only been mentioned four times).

re: Top 10 Living Theatrical Legends

I didn't include Herman on my list because I don't particularly like him - which isn't to say that he couldn't be considered.

And to the poster a while back who argued with me for leaving Cy Coleman off the list -- ummm, hate to break it to you, but he's no longer a LIVING legend...

I don't recall anyone's mentioning John Cullum, but he should be included.
