Headed to Boston next weekend with my girlfriend so we can see Confederacy of Dunces with Nick Offerman. Im looking for a special date night spot (one for pre-show dinner and a second for post-show drinks). We are both culinarily open-minded and adventures (favorite cuisines include Italian, Mexican, Thai). Would love to keep the bill under $80 per-person.
Also, is the theatre easily accessible by the T or would it be easier to drive
Offerman is great. I bought the book on my way home from the theater to figure out what the fuss is about.
Huntington Theater is right on the Green Line of the MBTA. Closest to the "E" branch, but under a 15 minute walk from the B/C/D lines (there is no A Train). You can drive, but parking will run you anywhere from $12 to $40, depending on where you end up.
Brasserie Jo is very nearby and is extremely well regarded and recommended. It leans towards French but has a big menu with something for everyone and it's a nice space.
Best Italian is in the North End, of course, but Davio's is great and is an easy "T" ride or about a 20 minute walk away.
Not any great Thai or real Mexican nearby that I can think of. Lots of steak and seafood places nearby too, of course.
There's a lovely little Vietnamese place right across the street from the Huntington that serves really excellent pho, and you'll spend less than $80 total, even with drinks. That's where I usually go. Tell them you are seeing a show and they'll speed up service for you if necessary.
