Tricks of the trade

I’m going on as Marian in the Music Man in two weeks, and I have a sinus infection (god I hate nature!). I was wondering if anyone out there had any tips or little remedies that helps to soothe one's throat...other than steam and tea...that perhaps may help before my antibiotics start to kick in!

Thanks
Kate

Take lots of hot showers. It opens everything up. This is something I have always done and now I read in a interview that Idina Menzel does the same thing.

Steam..steam and more steam..

Steam is the only thing proven to kill germs in the nose and the throat and it loosens and brings up any bit of crap from that area...

Enrico Caruso steamed everyday....

That is a very disturbing icon pic theatermafia. I always knew that Miss Piggy was a tramp, but jeez. I didn't know she was a porn star!

Ok, this once you first take it can dry you out so drink plenty of water BUT i was AMAZED at how much better i felt and i sang like new.
Afrin 12 hour sinus.
you can not use it for more then 3 days. BUT if you are in dire straights and have no time to work with. very very quick fix.

edited to add steam is the best solution, I advise this if you do not have any time to work with. Updated On: 2/10/04 at 03:06 PM

I took the new Tylenol Sinus. The day version doesn't work, but the night version does. Go figure :[ lol

Until I got my sinus surgery, I suffered from 3-4 sinus infections a year for about 11 years.

Lots and lots of water, but be very careful with the steam. Too much or too hot and it can swell the nasal membranes to the point where you feel even more stuffed up and it can swell the sinus passages, trapping the infection and causing it to get worse. Nasal spray can do the same. A cold steamer is the best for that if you can get your hands on one. If you have that irritating cough that won't go away, the Formula 44 suppressant works best for me about 10-15 minutes before curtain. The honey Ricolas are little miracles for short fixes as well. You really need antibiotics, but after a couple of days, your nose will run like a faucet, so be prepared. It takes a good 2 weeks to fully recover from a sinus infection. They're the worst!

For your throat LEMON is one of the best things. Its sourness makes blood rush to your throat which helps in clearing it up. It may taste horrible, but shooting very little bits of pure lemon juice really helps. If you don't like the idea of drinking it straight, put some in your tea with honey. Hope you feel better babe.
Best of luck on Marian!

This is another little trick--for coughs though--I used when i was a dancer in Most Happy Fella... I had the worst cough ever during the entire 1.5 month run and being one of the two principal male dancers and having to sing really upped my need for O2 which the cough made sure would not get into my blood stream... anyhoo i would place a vics vaporub patch on my chest each performance... During the dances anytime i would be given a chance to go offstage even for two seconds... i would open the neck of my shirt and take a huge breath in... this would make me cough free for about 4 minutes just long enough to finish a dance or a song!!! It worked the entire run...

NO LEMON~!!!!!! lemon juice on apples, yes, but straight lemons are too acidic to do anything good.
