Can anyone tell me where Mame had its out-of-town tryouts and what theatres and in which order they came. I knw it played the Shubert in Boston, but can anyone tell me where else it played pre-Broadway in its original 1966 production?

Mame played Philadelphia. The show's out-of-town period was surprisingly very smooth according to Jerry Herman who said they only had to cut a few things to tighten the show and that was about it. In the cast album liner notes, he refers to the creative process as a "nonstop joy". I'm not sure if it played other cities though.

One of the songs that was cut during the out-of-town tryouts was "Love is Only Love". It was sung by Mame to Young Patrick just before the title song. The tune popped up in a film musical that I care not to discuss.

"Long live God!" (GODSPELL)

Do you if it played Philadelphia before Boston and if it played the Forrest or the Shubert Theatre in Philly?
