Tonight at 7:30pm, the Vienna production of Rebecca raises its curtain for the last time at the Raimund Theatre. (There is also a 3:00pm matinee happening as I write this) After opening to stellar business in September 2006, Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay's newest musical directed by Francesca Zambello sold well its first season from Septemeber 2006-June 2007. It extended for an extra half season from September 2007-December 2007. And, finally, it played again this past half season from September 2008-December 2008. What is amazing about this production is that almost the entire original cast has performed each season, including the leads.
As reported in the past, a Broadway production is in the works. We haven't heard anything new since the announcement was made in September at the reopening. It is supposed that everything is tenuous at the moment, and hopefully more details arise. The transfer will be the same production as in Vienna, but sung in English, of course.
Susan Rigvava-Dumas and Wietske van Tongeren.
I am gonna miss the show have seen the show 7 times in Vienna and live 1000 miles from Vienna. As i typ this the curtain has closed for the last time.
Currently they are working on the translation and the set will be shipped to Canada.
Bis Später Rebecca!
Was there ever a story that begged to sing as much as REBECCA? Its very soul is operatic. Curious about the score.

Cremi, thank you so much for the update! I am glad that the Canadian tryout seems to be in full swing (and that the actual Vienna sets are coming over! YAY!!). Do they have a more specific Toronto opening time now set?

The Viennese producer's website has an article with great curtain call/after party photos... Drew Sarich was there...he'll be the title role in Rudolph at the same theatre in February.

ThanksToPhantom: I think that the translation would take a little bit of time, no?
Just sayin'. If the deal were announced in September, doubtful that any translation work would have started before that.
I would imagine that the lack of info doesn't necessarily mean that the project is stalled: but it sure would be reassuring if we did hear something more concrete from whoever's bringing it over. Cremi, pass the word along, yeah?

It's not as unofficial as it seems....back in September a great deal was announced... On the reopening this past September the following happened at the curtain call:
VBW (original producers) came onstage with Global Broadway and signed a contract onstage giving them the rights.
A translator was then announced. He would be working with the librettist, Michael Kunze, who already had his own (albeit flawed) English version to work with.
Here is the thread with the names. It's all very official, we're just awaiting updates....
