Oh, how I love this number. I love listening to it in the Broadway recording, the London recording uses a different sound that I don't find as appealing. Also, the chemistry between Donna McKechnie, Baayork Lee and Margo Sappington is just irreplaceable (judging from different performances of the song I've watched/listened to).
I can't get enough of McKechnie's head-pop in the Tony clip.

There's a version of the song on a site on the web with the replacements. It's a mess and the chorus and dancers are terrible. Late in the run, it was all just mush, which is a shame. That number required perfection and the Ed Sullivan version is dreck.

This is my new favorite thread.

And I think Kringas and Calvin should get married.

Where is this clip from Ed Sullivan? Am I stupid for not being able to find it?

The Ed Sullivan clip is not on youtube but in BlueGobo.com
I don't think it's a train-wreck, because the Michael Bennett choreography is still fantastic but I do think that it hardly has the same fantastic effect without the original trio, and Sappington is no McKechnie...then again no one is.

Bluegobo it is.

The problem with this version which is basically a snapshot of the show late in the run isn't just the three girls in front. The dancers in the bg are also very sloppy compared to the Tony Awards version on Youtube. Clearly, these are much lower level dancers and the timing is off. The cross over with the high steps is a machine in the first version and there are almost collisions in the latter. In addition, the girls on the tables lack the delineation.

I have traced the girl who has replaced Donna M. She was the most popular dancer on Hullabaloo who had a hit song or two - she sings about as well as Britany Spears or Paris Hilton - in the early 60s then, I believe, vanished.
