"Twentieth Century" recording?

Posted: 9/21/05 at 3:53pmDoes anybody know if Monday's "On the Twentieth Century" concert will be recorded and released on CD? They'd be foolish not to record and release it.

I was thinking the same thing. Douglas and Marin alone would make the recording beyond worth it! It's not like this show couldn't use a new recording, especially with two such extraordinary performers heading the cast. Here's hoping!

Posted: 9/21/05 at 4:50pmI'd love to have a new recording of 'On the Twentieth Century,' too. So when I saw Seth Rudetsky at the press preview for this concert, I asked him about it. He says unless an angel comes up with the money (somewhere in the neighborhood of $50,000), it won't be recorded. The only reason that 'Hair' got recorded was that someone ponied up the $$$ to have it done.

Well...if every BWW member put up $1,000 we could possibly see it through.
But... there are so many shows that do not have ANY recordings I would almost rather see the $ go there.
As I said back when the debate over a new recording of LA CAGE should be done, it wuld be wonderful if EVERY Broadway (and off-Broadway) production got recorded. But if it comes to a choice between a revival recording and a chance to get a new or previously un-recorded score, I would opt for the latter.
ON THE 20TH CENTURY already has an excellent OCR (on Sony) that was expanded for its CD release. It has excellent sound quality and the original cast can never be buttered.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
