Hi everyone. Is it possible to see Aida at 3 and Rent at 7 on a December Sunday ? Is there enough time to get from one theatre to another without running like crazy ? I don't know the exact length of Aida but if it is around 3 hours, i guess it can be done, what do you think ? Also do you advice it or is it too much for one evening ?
Take care

Posted: 11/10/03 at 7:15amIt's totally possible. That's what my wife and I do everytime we go to NYC. It can be a rush but it's not bad at all. I would suggest to go. Make sure you know where you're going before hand and you won't have any trouble. Enjoy!

Posted: 11/10/03 at 7:40amHave done this several times. In October, we caught a Sunday matinee of Cabaret and The Violet Hour at 7 pm. My advice would be to make sure to have actual tickets in hand for the evening show. And also, double-check the start time of the matinee. Shows that have two shows on Sunday (like Cabaret) tend to start at 2 pm instead of 3, and it can get confusing.

It's so much fun to see Rent after another show on a Sunday - I've done it twice. There's enough time, as long as you make sure you plan on eating after Rent and not before.

Posted: 11/10/03 at 2:39pmYes, it's absolutely possible... I've actually seen shows on a tighter time frame than that on a Saturday.... Chicago at 2pm, Rocky Horror at 5pm -- and I *still* had time after the show to chat with friends from the company. Then of course, we were all RUNNING up to circle in the square -- but yeah, it's totally doable.

My only drawback is if i'll be fully able to absorb and enjoy both on a back to back notice. I guess I am gonna have a very full head on Sunday night :). But i think it's the only way to see all the shows i want on the 8 days I'm gonna be in NYC. By the way, are the theatres playing AIDA & RENT on a close walking distance ?

Posted: 11/10/03 at 4:28pmSounds good. Next time I'm over I'll definitely have to try that. Now I've discovered that RENT is less about screaming and shouting to loud guitars I'm sure I will appreciate it much more.

Posted: 11/10/03 at 5:40pmYeah, it's possible. In April I saw "Urinetown" and "Rent" on the same Sunday. Plus it's a lot more fun and satisfying than just seeing one show :) But as I remember, "Rent" and "Aida" aren't all that close, so you might have to walk a bit faster.

Posted: 11/10/03 at 6:02pmAida plays at The Palace, which is on 47th St. and Broadway. Rent is at 41st. between 7th and 8th. Considering Times Square traffic (which you DO need to do, the pedestrian gridlock is ridiculous, especially around when shows get out), it shouldn't take you more than ten minutes to walk. You'll certainly be out of Aida by 5:45 at the latest (I think it's a two and a half hour show), so you would have plenty of time to get over to the Nederlander, and maybe even grab something really quick to eat.

Posted: 11/10/03 at 9:39pmHmm, I saw her on tour and thought she was good. I just hope the Roger I saw in April isn't still there. Sebastian Arcelus gave one of the most God-awful performances I've seen in a long time.

I think Krystal's amazing. Matter of taste, I guess.
Sebastian is currently an understudy for Mark and Roger and the male ensemble roles. The current Roger is Ryan Link. Ryan's been having some vocal problems in the past few weeks though, so Sebastian goes on pretty regularly, and he's a LOT better these days. I'm a fan of his, and he is the sweetest guy you'll ever come across, but he wasn't so hot vocally for awhile there thanks to a pretty constant sinus infection. Now that he's not doing the role everyday, he's back to being quite impressive. I think anyway.

Posted: 11/11/03 at 6:16amThat's why I had a problem with him vocally in the first place. I felt that Sebastian's voice had a nasal quality that was infinitely more suitable for Mark than for Roger, but if he had a sinus infection, maybe that was part of the problem. But that was still the worst version of "One Song Glory" I've ever heard...and I've heard some pretty bad ones too.

Check Tele-Charge.com for the running time of each show. My husband and I always do 2 shows on a Saturday- last weekend we saw 'Nobody Don't Like Yogi' at 2 and 'Golda's Balcony' at 5! I checked the running time of 'Yogi'- it was only 90 minutes- so I knew we could do it (2 slightly different types of shows!). Tele-charge and Playbill.com both have theater locations as well. We always have everything planned to the minute- we had lunch reservations at noon at a place in the theater district, were out of the restaurant at 1:30 and had plenty of time to get to the first show. We had an hour between shows (both were at theaters on 44th St.), which we killed downing BBQ and beer at Virgil's BBQ. Planning is everything, but you can cram a whole lot into one day in NYC!
