More rampant creativity from the hack of MOVIN' OUT
I'm so conflicted.
I hate jukebox musicals. I love Dylan. (I own all 43 of his albums) Its too much for me. I cant decide if I'd rather the thing just fail or actually suceed. I do wish if they have to do this that they would actually try to give it story like ASU, but I guess Tharp won't be doing that. Oh well now I mope.
Movin' Out is far from the average 'jukebox musical'. I think the show has a distinct artistic integrity, not evident in more commercially motivated shows- after all, I'm sure an "easier" show could have been made from Joel's material.
I don't recall 'Elite Syncopations' being criticized for re-using Joplin standards.
I look forward to Tharp's next dance show.
