I have an audition next month for a production of URINETOWN and I have absolutely no idea what I should sing for my audition. Any suggestions? I got nothing...please help.
ah...hello??
age?
sex?
role(s) you're inteested in?
range?
dance ability?
clearly you can't just expect help without any stats?
i say sing defying gravity
lol. NO!
I'm a male, I'm 20, and I have no specific roles that I want. I really just want ensemble. I am a high baritone (I was Jean Valjean in Les Miserables to give you an idea of my range). And I have ten years of dance experience in jazz, ballet, and tap under my belt.
Now please...can anyone help? Any suggestions would work. Thanks!
You can't go wrong w Kander & Ebb - something from Cabaret?

I have an audition for Urinetown this weekend, but I'm not familiar with the show at all. Any suggestions? I have a pretty deep voice, but I can sing baritone and a little bit tenor.

Here's an idea.... GET FAMILIAR WITH THE SHOW!
If you are too cheap to buy the CD, you can listen to 30-second clips on Amazon or I-Tunes.
URINETOWN fits in the genre of not-so-serious/serious musical comedy knee-slapper that's-a-groaner dirty/appropriate joke... musical theatre.
It's safe to rely on similar-minded musicals as audition material, ie: AVENUE Q, ALTAR BOYZ, [TITLE OF SHOW], SPAMALOT, LEGALLY BLONDE, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, CABARET... or turn to actual recording artists like Tenacious D who know how to crack a joke but also carry a tune.
Also, get familiar with the show, babe. There's a whole gamut of male roles. If you go with your mind set on a few of them, tailor your delivery thusly.

Leads:
Bobby Strong: High-tenor good comedic timing but also naive, the hero and love interest (so play hetero)
Office Lockstock: Must be able to command stage, upper-baritone, can crack a joke without cracking a smile
Caldwell: Lower-baritone evil sneer slimey mustache badguy
But TRUST ME, this is a show where (believe it or not) the spotlight and ALL the fun goes to the ensemble. Seriously.
Hot-Blades Harry, Old Man Strong, McQueen and Tiny Tom are knock-out hilarious roles (if played well). Often the towns-people are double-cast as the office-workers (so can lead to some great costume and caricature devices)

Thanks, Jon! Snarky responses are greatly appreciated.
Eug, thank you seriously. I'll look at Dirty Rotten Scoundrels or Avenue Q, I think.
