They're done! They're finished and filed. And not through the HR Block site.
After a few more frustrating dealings with HR Block's online "customer service"...including them wanting me to print out my return to check my complaint (and only charging me $16 more dollars) I gave up and did my return with Turbo Tax.
Yes, it cost me more.....almost 3 times as much as the HR Block program...but my refund ended up being almost 3 times as much as the first program.
So..thanks to everyone who suggested Turbo Tax. It rocks!

singingwendy, glad it worked out for you, but this year was the first in seven years of filing with Turbotax that their program gave me big problems.
I managed to get everything filed, and I don't owe, but I think I'm going to have to amend my returns and do it by hand which is a royal pain and may have to make a trip to the IRS office for a consultation.
For some reason when I filed my federal return today the stupid program insisted that I file a federal extension form and pay $27 before it would let me file--but you don't need an extension on the due date. Bizarre. And I didn't owe on my federal return, on that one I was getting a lot back so there was some kind of bug in the program there. It kind of corrected itself by giving me back the $27 on the federal return along with my refund, but it shouldn't have done that.
I'm disillusioned with Turbotax. Anyone got a better tax software?
