Okay, so we all know that when Dorothy 'fell' into Oz, she was dreaming right? Will someone then explain how Wicked could happen if Oz was only a dream... It's like, got me puzzled beyond belief.

Well, I'm glad he got away with it.

In the books, her trip to Oz actually occurred. It is only in the MGM movie that the journey was a dream.

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

You should read Baum's original books, they are excellent. Truthfully, I wish the producers of the show paid a bit more attention to the books when putting the show together, particularly in the origins of the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion.

I asked that question a while back. I think we debated it more than that though.

In the movie, the production team thought that the public might not go for her actually going to Oz. They thought that it was to bizarre for the audience to believe, so they made it into a dream.

baddad, thanks for that. I was just talking to a friend about an hour ago about how the original WOO is nothing the movie. Hell, the Wicked Witch of the West has one eye, is a little old lady, carries an umbrella instead of a broom, and isn't even green. I actually do like the original, obviously not as much as WICKED (musical).

It's not really a dream, but if Glinda just sent her back to Kansas by dropping her from the sky then everybody would know something strange happened. By making her wake up then everybody knows nothing about Oz and Dorothy just thinks it's a dream.
