I saw the cast on a website and was really happy that a lot of originals were reprising their roles, Nathan, Matt, Gary and Roger(I said that like i know them), and Will Ferrell is doing the part of Franz. However, who is going to play Ulla? I heard Nicole Kidman dropped out(which is a good thing....I think). Who is going to replace her? What about the original Cady Hoffman? What is she doing now and does she even want to do the film part(I don't see why not). What info. or thoughts do you guys have?

i was also excited to hear that nicole dropped out. i mean, i liked her in moulin rouge, but shes just not ulla. is is true that she dropped out because stepford wives was such a flop that she decided not to work with matthew again? well..i dont think the producers will be bad at all. im rather excited.

my friend also told me somethinh about uma thurman. i dont like that choice. shes too angry/manly (i think kill bill...not sexy swede). ulla should be tall and blonde, like uma, but theres a lot more than that. ive also never heard uma sing. i do hope they can find ms huffman or at least someone with a measure of talent to play ulla.

im ridiculously excited about will ferrell. did brad want his part back, or did they give it to will over him? just a thought..since so many members of the obc are coming back.

umm...guess you don't get out much, MTV.

This is pretty old news but yes, the rumor about Uma was confirmed last week finally.

She is scheduled to play the role and I think will be fine as compared to Kidman, who I could NEVER see in the part from the beginning.

I don't know all that much about Thurman's range etc...but I think she can handle it. Though Cady would have been great.

But we've been down that path a lot on this board...so let's not go there again.

Box office vs. stage talent? We could argue that all day.

MTV-- That is THE choice. Yes, Uma is Ulla, now that Nicole dropped out. Uma certainly looks the part, whether she can sing is another question. There's a small acticle about it in this week's Entertainment Weekly.

Buddha: You are mistaking the part Uma played in Kill Bill for Uma...that's why they call it acting, kiddo.

She is capable of playing softer roles and has done so. As has been stated many times on this board, the original cast would have been great, but when you make a movie you are enslaved to the studio and they want box office recognition...hence Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman were cast to give it some box office pizzaz.

Nice to think that they could find at least a small part for Brad to fly back from London and film for a few days anyway...it would be great to see him in the film but to tell you the truth I was ecstatically surprised that they left Roger and Gary in...given Universal's penchant for STARS...

yeh sam i know..but i cant help it. when i picture uma i think kill bill. i dont know if she can do it, but im willing to give her a chance. lol...i really dont have a choice..but im being optimistic here. and its nice that they put gary and roger in (although i think roger has a great future ahead of him in the movies..playing the sterotypical gay man. cant wait for him on desperate housewives)..because i know that sometimes (unfortunatley) they do go for big names rather than big talent. or they pull a poto and go for neither.

I actually would have really liked to see Christina Applegate play it. I think she would act the crap out of that part. She's remarkably funny. Who knows if she could sing the part (what with that recent internet movie/ad thing for Sweet Charity), but she would have been funny.

We'll see with Uma. I've never seen her do comedy. Or sing. Or dance. It shall be interesting...

Uma is very sweet and daffy in THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS. And I'm sure neither Mr. Brooks or Ms, Stroman is going to cast someone in a lead role who can't perform the material.

bjivie2, the same thing crossed my mind today. After seeing the Sweet Charity promo, Applegate almost seems an obvious choice. God, she bursts with presence!

WOOOOO. You haven't been reading the papers? Henry Goodman replacing Lane in the 1st run of the Producers...Chris Kattan cast by Stro in the Frogs and replaced by Bart. Richard Dreyfuss cast by Brooks as Max in London and replaced with 3 days notice and rehearsal by LANE.

They won't cast someone who can't do the role?

I'm not saying Thurman CAN'T do it...I'm just saying that you can't make the assumption she can because Brooks and Stroman never make mistakes!

Yeah, I know I left myself open to that one. But this is a movie so it will be carved in stone as it were.
Re: the PRODUCERS firings, Stro doesn't actually put all those people into the show, her assistants do, so in the case of someone like Dreyfuss, she wasn't even in London when he was struggling with the rehearsals, she arrived at the last minute. I just think now that this is the version that will be the permanent record, they might be a little more cautious.

I wouldn't automatically assume that they cast people who can handle the roles, and I definitely would not assume that they cast the best people to fill the roles. I've never heard Uma sing, so I'm wary about that. I think Applegate would have been a better choice. But I guess I'll have to wait and see what Uma can do. I like her better than Kidman at least.
