Ultimate mix tape

OK, so I decided, as inspired by reading High Fidelity, to make a "mix tape" (though I guess that term is pretty outdated now) to make for friends and students interested in theater - here's the catch, I ONLY want to include songs that someone who's an "average" theater goer/listener wouldn't likely know. So nothing from Rodgers and Hammerstein's big ones, Les Mis, major Sondheim, Rent, Wicked -- you get the idea. I'd also go for theater-related songs, such as Jason Robert Brown's "Someone to Fall Back On" (my new favorite song). I want enough for a disc, so about 20 songs, and have a sort of "prelist." I'm looking for suggestions for stuff I've missed, stuff you'd put on etc. I have a LOT of stuff, so feel free to name whatever you want, and if it's something I DON'T have I'll end up tracking it down. The only other catch, I may have some theater students listen, so all songs HAVE to be clean :

1. Falling (They're Playing Our Song)
2. Mama Will Provide (Once on this Island)
3. You're Already There (Listen To My Heart)
4. Mama, A Rainbow (Minnie's Boys)
5. The Sun (Metropolis)
6. Someone To Fall Back On
7. Freedom (Shenendoah)
8. Love Can't Happen (Grand Hotel)
9. As Good As You (Jane Eyre)
10. I Sing For You (Camp soundtrack)
11. Let It Sing (Violet)
12. Tonight at Eight (She Loves Me)
13. You Should Be Loved (Side Show)
14. Unworthy of Your Love (Assassins)
15. Milady (Confidence Man)
16. Words He Doesn't Say (Romance Romance)
17. Where's The Girl (Scarlet Pimpernel)
18. Lily's Eyes (Secret Garden)
19. Main Street At Noon (Scarlet Letter - I know no one knows this show, but what a shame)
20. See Her Smile (Tick Tick Boom)
21. The Butterfly (Zorba)
22. I Feel So Much Spring (New Brain)

Thank you re: Ultimate mix tape

And I think my favourite "mix tape" would have to be my "When You Feel Sad" Playlist on my iPod:

Purpose (Q)
All For The Best (Godspell)
Everybody Fits (Altar Boyz)
Livin' Alive (Anthony Rapp)
Wonderchild (Adam Pascal)
Planet Z (Idina Menzel)
Don't Rain on My Parade (Linda Eder)
Hear My Song (Songs for a New World)
Beautiful City (Godspell)
Century Plant (Camp)
I Believe (Altar Boyz)
See Her Smile (Tick Tick Boom)
I'm With You (Adam Pascal)
For Now (Q)

re: Ultimate mix tape

We matched two songs there. :)
I actually had ALL For the Best on the list, and took it off because I wanted to avoid anything with even a remote religious connotation because of the possible audience (though I guess The Butterfly might need to come off because of that).

And Century Plant -- great song, but I had to stick with I'll Sing For You - when I got that CD I listened to that song more times than I could count. Century Plant is great, but definitely not one you can put on repeat since as it is it repeats the same phrase over and over (like the second half of Midnight Radio).

re: Ultimate mix tape

Reach Right Down - Starmites (a really fun one)
Diva - Starmites
(there are prolly a couple more from that show as well)

Brand New Eyes - Prodigal (loooove this song - can't believe I just threw it out there, this is one of my faves that no one ever knows so I don't have to worry about anyone else auditioning with or performing it...oy vey, I'm gonna regret that, lol)

NeverLand from Piece (the trio or quartet version)
Magic from Piece
Home from Piece
(all can be found on Scott Alan's website)

stuff in Bare is fun too - Portrait of A Girl, You and I, A Quiet Night At Home, 911 Emergency...

Bring Me To Light - Violet
On My Way - Violet
(that show is my absolute fave!)

Make Our Garden Grow - Candide (beautiful)

Small Town Girl - Debbie Does Dallas the musical
God Must Love A Fool - Debbie Dallas the musical

Comfort and Joy - Batboy
Hold Me Batboy - Batboy
Another Dead Cow - Batboy

I'll stop there, otherwise I'll go on forever, lol
If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

Heres where I Stand ---- Camp

does that count?
...and still you hold on, to every old song... - Adam Pascal

re: Ultimate mix tape

I'd add:

"Old Red Hills of Home" and "All the Wasted Time" from Parade
"Montana Chem." or the title song from Sondheim's show "Saturday Night"

Q: What is the most weirdest or funniest thing a fan has asked you? Joe Flanigan, Stargate Atlantis: When a fan asked me for help with his grammar. I'm available.
