Unified auditions? Awful?

hahaha! well, theyre sure as hell stressfull. are you a senior? cuz if so, then absolutely. if youre a junior, then you're very lucky. make sure you are PREPARED! u want to be one out the million they look at. :) with such a cattlecall-like audition, they make decisions usually within the first 30 seconds. :-/

For Syracuse's Unifieds in NYC, can you use a tape recording for the music? Or must you use a pianist? Thanks for any help.

If you are going for musical theater make sure you have your music on sheet paper (cut the way you want it), have it on CD (or 2) or tape for back up, and your own Boombox. Have plenty of resumes (sp?) and headshots ready. O yes and make sure you have your SS # memorized or at least writen down where you can get at it easily. Be perpared for anything and everything to go wrong, and you will be fien. :) O yes, and above all make sure you are polite, I can not tell you how many nasty looks I got from people just walking down the hall, and how many people I heard yelling at auditioners.

What is the audition process for unified auditions like?

You can do them before your senior year? Junior is gr.11 right? (I'm canadian i never learnt what junnior, sophmore, ect. was in regards to years)

Yikes. That's a lot of pressure. I've never heard of those, but then again I live in a theatre vaccuum. bah.

National Unified Auditions for SENIORS applying to BFA programs in theater doesn't quite work the way Lilmunkee described above.

These audition dates are held in NYC, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and LA during February. Certain college BFA programs conduct their auditions at these sites as an ALTERNATIVE to on campus auditions. This is so that the seniors who wish to audition at many schools on one date or one weekend in one location can do so and not have to travel to all the separate college on campus auditions. So, you can either audition on campus on certain dates, or attend Unifieds if those colleges participate in Unified auditions. However, in either case, you need to line up your audition with the individual colleges. These colleges grant you an audition time at Unifieds and hold their own separate audition there, not mixed with all colleges at once. Thus, for example, if you are applying to four colleges attending unifieds, you have four audition appointments, not one. Also, the requirements for each audition DIFFERS and you must get the requirements from EACH college, not the way Lilmunkee desribed. The actual materials required differs, plus the length of time per piece will vary from school to school. Many schools also have a dance audition (if for Musical Theater). Some schools make you set aside a half day for their audition. You apply for the audition directly to each college. You do not get a "callback" later that day and you do not find out the result of your admissions that day either. A few schools have a "callback" within their audition block (Penn State does, for example).

hm, thats really interesting soozie! maybe they do it different in different cities, cuz thats how it has been for the juniors and seniors in vegas. who knows... its probably different requirements.. i dont know how! they're really laid back here i guess.

but im not sure about acceptance rates.. if they want you then they want you, ya know?

The Unifieds are a great way to knock out a bunch of auditions at once (why spread the anxiety out, right?)

I did them last year for BoCo and am now a freshman in their MT program. I know of several other students in my class who got in from the various regional auditions.

I did the Chicago Unifieds and was able to audition for 5 schools in one weekend. Not bad. BoCo was my only scheduled audition. I was able to do walk-up auditions (YES, that's right! All you have to do is ask!) for Carnegie Mellon, Penn State, Oklahoma University, and Ithaca.

Definetly look into the Unifieds.

That's basically what you need to know. It is quoted from the site, which gives you contact information for each school. Ideally, you will have researched colleges, made up your list of schools for which to audition, completed your applications, and made your audition appointments. Each college has their own audition scheduling arrangement, each has its own audition requirements. You need to do your research so that you have the information you require!

Unified auditions are great. I loved them. It was an excellent way to get many of your college auditions done in a short amount of time without having to travel around the US to show the schools what you got. There isn't a certain number of people who get accepted to schools at Unifieds (at least that's not the case at my school). If you got it, they take you. I had 2 other people in my dance audition that are in my class right now. And I know many others who got accepted that also auditioned at other Unified locations. It's basically just an easier way for students to be able to audition for the programs they're interested in. So don't think that you're at a disadvantage auditioning at Unifieds. Granted, you don't get to walk around on campus, but you can do that whenever. I didn't step foot on campus until 4 months after I got my letter.

I would strongly encourage going to them. You meet a lot of amazing people who might just end up being your classmates.

I loved the Unifieds. Mine took place in Chicago and they werent a Hell-ish experience. They saved me money by not flying all over the nation to audition. Also i got most of my auditions out within the three days. That also saved me from missing alot of school. Overall i found them to be conveinent.

I heard a statistic from a thread on collegeconfidential.com that said a slightly larger percentage of students were accepted at unifieds as opposed to on campus. It gives the actual numbers on the site. I do not remember where they got the information though.
