I'm sorry for those who are annoyed by this, there's a lot of threads about advice, I know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am applying to U of M in the fall, and I want to get into the Theatre program. I am kind of clueless as to what to use as my monologues though. I need 2 contrasting monologues. Does any one recommend any books for an audition at UofM? I am used to doing Musical Theatre so I was wondering about what monologues are the best and any misc. advice for getting into the U of M Theatre program would be really nice. Thank you!
If I were you I would apply and audition at Western Michigan University. Seeing as it is in the same state, and they are the #3 Music Theatre program in the nation, and 1 of only 6 universities that are accredited in all 3 Music, Theatre, and Dance.
So just think about it, and maybe try for both. They are both VERY competative.
UMich only accepts 6 in COUNTRY auditionees...the rest they go out of the country for.
Wmich only accepts 10-12 people total...5 men 5 women or 6&6.
Good Luck Break A Leg
For more info on Wmich, message me...Im a Music Theatre Performance Major there. :)
I can only relay what I am told. And that is what I was told by someone who auditioned there last spring. My apologies. However, I am curious, how many do they accept? What are the numbers?
No worries! It seems that the poster is interested in BFA Acting program (although I'm not sure), to which UMichigan accepts about 18-20. They accept about 12 into the MT program. There are no in country "quotas," and in fact, I don't even think they travel outside of the country to hold auditions, although people could certainly travel TO Michigan (or one of their off-campus sites) to audition.
