#1Urinetown C.D. Question

So, I saw a production of Urinetown at a local college today and it was done very well. I decided to buy the c.d. on itunes just now because I wanted to listen to the music, but there is a very strange quality to the audio. It sounds almost as if it is live and it does not completely sound like a pure c.d. recording. Is this the way the recording was done, or was it a problem with itunes, or what? I am very confused!

...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

Just have to comment: wow! Lot of Urinetown topics!

But, seriously, I really don't see a difference in the audio, it sounds like any other cast recording I've ever listened to. Maybe it's the small orchestra? Because if you've ever listened to [Title of Show]'s cast recording, that sounds recorded live more than any other recording. Try comparing it to that...

that's the way it was recorded. it is sort of an homage to the way they recorded broadway shows back in the day, unlike the newer shows where they use all the modern techniques.

Okay cool, just didn't want to make sure I was crazy. Because the quality wasn't as crystal as what I'm used to. Thanks.

I have to agree. I have always thought that the voices sounded "small" to me - like the mics were far from the talent, especially John Cullum - he has a great loud voice. It just sounds strange - "quality wasn't as crystal" like you say.

It kind of ruins the recording for me - yet I love Urinetown.

This is a photo from our production from it this past October

Cullum is difficult to hear/understand on the CD.

My musical director here knows the orchestrator and apparently the recording was a very cheap recording and they wanted it to sound tinny or like it was in a can. I think that just goes along with the style of the show.

yeah, the recording is ok, but I still have the voices of my production in my head.

here is a pic from our production:

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

The stenciled "SECRET HIDEOUT" letters seem like a tribute to the RENT logo. Intentional or coincidence?

coincidence, i believe

how illegal can it be to put up pics of a small production of a show?
honestly over a million people would be in jail by now.

Hmmm That gag in Hope's mouth looks too similar to the one used in the Broadway production. I am afraid you are getting sued, young man.
