Whatever happened to the Urinetown movie that, at one point, had Bette Midler as Pennywise? Is it in development? Is it even at the writing stage yet?
I was just thinking about that this morning
and the pre-sequel/sequel musicals?

ha i was just thinking about that. I have a feeling both that and TMM will eventually be made into a movie
That would be awesome. I never got to see the show but I love the music so I'm all for a film!
On the Urinetown subject, if you go to like Big League Theatricals website it says they are launching a tour of the show in their 05-06 Season. I dont know the link off the top of my head, but check it out if your a fan.

I never heard about this. That would be amazing. Urinetown was one of my favorite shows in the past few years.
Big League isn't starting a national tour, they're simply hosting the national tour. It's the same one that's touring the country right now.

i thought that urinetown stoped touring? the official website dosent have any new dates.
REALLY?
Wow that would be so cool. It's hard to imagine it though.
Yeah, that was my mistake. I assumed it was the tour since they also have Blast which is only available on tour. But they're not starting another touring production. It must just be a regional production of the show. It's available for licensing through MTI now.

I seem to remember that there is a new, non-union tour starting up sometime soon, but, as usual, I may be wrong. I hope it tours, tho, I want to see it.

bette midler as pennywise=disaster...ahh that would suck...
I think she's a great choice. She's totally got the acting and singing chops for it. I'd pay to see her. But it would be a shame not to have Nancy Opel reprise her role.
I'm gonna be pilloried for this but this is one show i'd prefer to leave live. If not,I think the best route would be animation.

STOP MAKING MUSICALS INTO FILMS!!
A few is okay, but pretty soon, part of the development of a Broadway musical will be its film version!
I don't like this.
Thank you Joshua, thank you very very very much. I will be extremely depressed if Urinetown ever gets turned into a movie.
There is no one I can think of in the Hollywood Entertainment industry that deserves to play any one of these parts. PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!
I think broadway movies are fine, as long as they have broadway actors in them. They're the ones with the real talent. If they did a urinetown movie, it should be either OBC or other Broadway actors...kinda like what they did with the RENT movie. Urinetown is one of my fav musicals...I'd love to see it as a movie....but it has to stay true to the storyline and have true talant.
I don't think people should get upset about original cast members not being in shows. Are we so upset that Renee, Catherine, Queen Latiffah and Richard were all in Chicago? No one made a fuss that hey didn't cast Bebe Neuwirth. As long as the casting choices are good, I think they'll be fine. And I agree that if we churn out tons of movie musicals, a lot of them are going to be bad. So far we've gotten pretty lucky with Chicago and Phantom. And it looks like we'll be even more lucky with The Producers and RENT. As long as the movies are good, I don't care if shows are adapted for screen.
And I don't know where I heard the Bette Midler rumor. Maybe I made it up.
