I 2nd Foxx in a dramatic role. Actually, Foxx is bad in comedic parts. He's usually very broad and it's more like he's doing standup (Bootycall, Bait, Held up, and even last year's Breakin' All the Rules) So, I'd axe him for Jimmy. Plus, Foxx's voice fits better with Curtis...Furthermore, Foxx's voice isn't all that great. I used to think it was until his flaws were revealed when her performed at the Pre-Grammy party. He basically has two notes he does. One in his chest voice and one falsetto. His voice is stronger and his tone is better than Eddie's though.

Foxx will not be in the film. Unless he settles for less.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I agree that casting Eddie Murphy in the movie just might work. Eddie is the right age for the part and to bring in the demographic that actually witnessed the original stage production en masse. He, Miss Holliday, and I are in the same ballpark age-wise. I also have no problem classifying him as a legend in the vein of Richard Pryor. He has numerous movies to his credit and he paved the way for countless other comedians of his distinction to break into film. Jamie Foxx would be wise to follow up his success in "Ray" with another blockbuster soon or he will become the male equivalent of Marisa Tomei quickly in terms of box office appeal. Why not let the dust settle on his relatively newfound success and see how he handles the one or two inevitable flops down the road. I sense that he will readjust those outrageous demands before too long or he’ll price himself out of the market and beg to join the “Barbershop” franchise. His work prior to “Ray” wasn’t exactly part of the canon of great American film.
