Hey all,

As most of you know the Audience Awards are up for NYMF. You can even vote here. "but I'm a Cheerleader" was certainly one of the best of the festival (AM New York named it "best of festival"..NYtheatre.com called it"..the best show you won't see at the festival because it's sold out."). Show your support and vote for those perky little pom pom carriers! :)

That "best of the festival" stuff is hype. Half the shows at the festival hadn't even started performances yet when those comments were coming out.

If you are so sure that it truly is the best of the festival, then why the need to campaign for votes?

By the way, on an earlier thread where people were saying what they voted for, I didn't see Cheerleader mentioned once. (Yank, Feeling Electric and Rooms seemed to be the favorites.) So I guess there are quite a few people that don't agree with you that Cheerleader is the best of the festival.

joniray--is there REALLY a need for you to be a **** about this? Fine you didn't like the show, but why your need to campaign against it?

I'd love to vote for ...Cheerleader, cause i did truly love it, but i loved another show a little more and so I voted for it.

It's not about campaigning against Cheerleader in particular. It is true that I did not care for this show but I know that I'm in the minority and if it wins fair and square, that's fine. I just get irritated when people campaign for their show to be chosen audience favorite. If a show is truly the favorite of the majority of those who have attended festival shows, then it should win for that and for that alone, not because of who did the most campaigning or who had the most friends or fans vote. I posted my feelings about this on another thread as well which was not related to Cheerleader, so it is not as if I am going after this post just because it is about Cheerleader. This sort of campaigning irritates me because I think it is innately dishonest no matter what the show involved is.

The reason I felt compelled to reply to this post was because of the way the OP stated that Cheerleader was "certainly one of the best of the festival" as if it were a forgone conclusion, a fact instead of their opinion and then backed it up two quotes that I have issues with. The AM New York one because they made that statement before all or even most of the shows in the festival could be have been seen, and the NYTheatre.com one because it insinuated that this show was the big sell-out of the festival when there was at least a half dozen more shows that have been just as much of a sell out - in fact, all but one of the over 15 shows that I've attended were sold out at the performance I attended with people waiting in stand-by.

I thought the post and the quotes were dishonest hype. So I said so and said why.

So I take it you are not seeing any more shows in the festival before Sunday? Just trying to keep you honest re: VOTE FOR 'BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER'

P.S. I also loved Feeling Electric along with three or four others so far. Feeling Electic is the show I'm most jonesin' to see again.

no, I saw the 4 shows I'm seeing already. I loved 2 of them, thought one was ok and hated one with the fire of a thousand suns.

Why is someone campaigning for their favorite show a problem? It didn't force zoneace to vote for it. All it does is tell people that there is a vote on fave/best show of the festival and to vote Cheerleader. Big whoop.

Couple of things, Joniray. First of all, which show are you in/did you write? Be honest, now.

Second of all, Cheerleader WAS, in fact, the fastest sell-out in the festival.
So, the fact that you come on a thread to gripe about people passing about hype, only to make sure to shill for your own show just shows what you are.
Which is a waste of time.

Well, I suppose you would have a point if I actually was personally involved in any of the shows in the festival. But the closest thing to "being involved" is knowing some of the performers in about a third of the shows, including, as a matter of fact, Cheerleader (and I think their performances in Cheerleader are great - I just don't care much for the show that they are in). Strangely enough though, my favorite shows that I've seen so far (Yank, Feeling Electric, Mistress Cycle and Don Imbroglio) don't have anyone in the cast or creative team that I know (at least I don't think so). So much for shilling.

I am just a festival-goer who has seen most of the shows and like everyone else here, have opinions about what I liked and didn't. I know it's boring, but it's the truth.

Now Cheerleader has obviously got a lot of people who love it. I mean there have been dozens of posts over the past few weeks about it and for the longest time all of these posts were about how great it was. There was no counter opinion. Then one person came out and asked "Am I the only person who didn't care for this?" and I responded, "No your not" and stated why I didn't like it and, later why I thought it was distasteful for it (as well as other shows) to campaign for votes and now I've got jrb hurling posts at me with asterisks in them. The show has plenty of support. Every show has its detractors and we are clearly in the minority, so is there really a need to shout us down and try to discredit us when all we are doing is offering a countering opinion in a very large pro-cheerleader crowd?

I didn't like it. You did. I don't think the writing is as strong as some of the other shows I've seen in the festival. You do (although I'd like to know what all the other shows you are comparing it to are as well). I have an opinion. You have yours. No need for McCarthyism here.

Yes every show has its detractors. But most of those detractors are polite enough not to crash EVERY thread that comes up about said show and bemoan how s**t they thought it was. There are easily half a dozen shows I can think of that are revered on this board on a daily basis that I really don't care for. But I don't feel the need to go in the threads and tell everyone how awful I think the show they love really is.

Oh, Lord, Joniray. If you don't see why people are shouting you down here, then you won't get it when I say it, but to plop onto this thread and reiterate your same tired point again (I didn't like Cheerleader! Ick! Poo! Vote for my favorites instead!) just reeks of...well, something. It might not be shilling but it still smells like sh*t.

Um, exaggerate much? Every thread? This is only the second Cheerleader thread I have posted to – oh, I'm sorry – I mean "Crashed." Silly me, I just thought I was responding to what was written before. Isn’t that what people do here?

"But I don't feel the need to go on in the threads..." I posted a total of four times in another Cheerleader thread-is that truly considered excessive?. My first post stated my opinion about the show and then I responded to three other posts directed at me. That’s called a conversation.

"McCarthyism"?? Oh, Lord. LMAO"

Well, it was written tongue planted firmly in cheek. "You don't like Cheerleader, then you MUST be involved in and/or a shill for another show – there is just no other reason why you wouldn't like Cheerleader – burn her!"

Jrb, haven't you ever seen anything that a huge amount of people on here have raved about and say things like this "it is certainly the best" or "everyone loves it" and thought, "Whoa, hold the phone, no, not everyone." And once I say I didn't care for something, I say why. And when I hear what sounds like hyperbole to me, I tend to want to call people on it.

So now I guess I'm only supposed to post when I love something or I agree with something. Otherwise it's "negative." You're right, jrb, from now on I'm going to try to be as positive as you and just call people a **** when they post something I don't agree with.

On second thought, maybe I'll just not get as worked up as you do when others post "negatively" about a show I love.

Broadway Singer, it is true that I did voice my displeasure with the whole audience favorite award thing in another thread. It was called "Vote for Yank" or something like that and I don't believe Cheerleader was ever mentioned in it and the points I made there and made here are different points (and critical of a shill for Yank, a show I loved). So it's not "the same tired point." Now, if you really care so, go read what I wrote in the other Cheerleader thread and tell me exactly what points that I made there and then repeated here.

Your ferocity in protecting this show is the only thing I can detect that "smells like sh*t" as you so elegantly put it.

"Move on please."

I agree, lets. I am more than happy to never post on this subject again. But "every thread?" Here I will repeat myself, because I guess you didn't read my response to that before. I've posted in two threads about Cheerleader. Have there really only been two threads about Cheerleader? Um...no.
