Vanities

Several years ago I saw a videotaped performance of the play VANITIES, starring Annette O'Toole, Meredith Baxter, and Shelley Hack. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if anyone knows where I can obtain a copy of the video?

Thanks!

Lorings, I saw it yrs ago as well and adored it. I have been hunting for years for it. I will save u YEARS of searching and inquiries. It is controlled by HBO, and sits in their vaults and they do not plan on releasing the TONS opf great old live plays they shot in the 80's. Since then ownership MAY have changed to Showtime. I spoke with both networks and neither plans to release anything. I even spoken with the piece's playwright himself, J. Heifner, to find a copy. He was very sweet and said he is enraged that they will not release it. He has 1 videotaped copy that he, contractually, cannot release to anyone.

He said that he wisehes they would release the countless numbers of plays they are holding in their vaults. For now, you would have to find someone who videotaped it way back in the 80's and snag a copy. In my years of searching for this and other plays, I have had little to no luck. If you ever snag a copy, PLEASE lemme know!

Virgil, thank you for the information! It really is a shame that all those great performances are locked away in a vault somewhere and may never see the light of day again. That play had a huge impact on me (obviously, since I still remember it to this day) and I'd love to see it again with those actresses. Ah well....I have to give you props for all the research you did!
