I agree with you about Linda's Lucy. She is the best, hands down, imo, vocally, that is.
just my 2 cents, but...
For those who have seen any of the actors play J/H on Bd'w for an extended period, this is a killer role! It took its toll, at times with the best of them. The only bull, and I mean that affectionately, that stormed through this role missing 1 or 2 shows for over a year, virtually 98% healthy was Chuck Wagner, on the tour.
It's far more demanding physcially than Valjean or Phantom and it's "no walk in the park" vocally either. Just ask a few actors who have done 2 or 3 of these same roles IE: Rob Evan, Brad Little, Craig Schulman. This kind of demanding presence and powerful vocals will be an enormous challange for any actor to pull off convincingly on film, without a lot of inhancements. Even if they are not doing it 8x a week live.

Hugh would be fine, but Im not so thrilled with Johansson, who IMO, was vastly overrated in Match Point. I'd give the role to Eder, whos acting was surprisingly good in Camille Claudel I thought. I would agree with getting a big name for Jekyll, but not necessarily for the others.

Why is Hugh the new go-to guy for movie musicals?
Jekyll and Hyde, Sunset Boulevard...and isn't he (rumored to be) considered for the Full Monty movie as well?

Gerard Butler as Jekyll/Hyde!? Don't make me cry. ;_;
I think Linda Eder's too old now for the role, actually. Though to be honest I'm not her biggest fan to begin with.

Posted: 2/2/06 at 5:19pmScarlett is a wonderful actress who I didn't think was AT ALL overrated in Match Point. I felt that she was snubbed of a much deserved Oscar nom. The movie also proved the point that she has amazing sex appeal. I think physically and acting wise, she's a great choice for Lucy. I have not heard her sing before so I cannot say whether I think she can handle the role vocally, but I cannot say that she can't, either. I'm all for her. And Jackman is a great choice, too.

Linda would probably be too old for it now. Even when she opened the role onstage, she probably was, but that was easily hidden.
I think we can do far worse than this pairing. However, Jackman's name is mentioned for every musical movie these days. Johanssen would be a fine choice as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up with John Stamos and Jody Sweetin at this point...

I wonder what the screen chemistry between Hugh and Scarlett is? If this happens, this will be the third teamup for them. They completed the Woody Allen comedy thriller SCOOP last summer and are now both filming the movie THE PRESTIGE ( where Hugh duels with rival magician Christian Bale). From what some on set photos indicate, Hugh looks great in Victorian clothes

Posted: 2/2/06 at 5:44pmI'm just curious...Why do people think Scarlett is so amazing? I've only enjoyed her in one thing. I think she's an awful actress, especially in "Match Point."

"Why do people think Scarlett is so amazing?"
The emotions she gives in Lost in Translation were brillant. It was such a calm and sullen performance. It was one of the best of 2004. In Girl with a pearl earring she is the lead but has hardly any lines. She captures this girl so well through her eyes and face, it is an excellent and very challenging role. If you think she is awful in match point I really dont know what to say about that. What made her awful? I thought her transformation from the passionate distant american girl into the bitter, needy, and calloused other woman was right on.

First i have to admit, I love Jekyll & Hyde, although I think the tour version is far superior to the broadway version. I think Hugh is a great choice for the movie.
For those pop-pooing the movie musical genre in general right now I have to say give it some time. True a lot of the new ones are mediocre, but movie musicals have been a vitualy dead art form for a long time now. This is a new generation of film makers who haven't been making musicals, they are learning what works and what doesn't and the only way to learn is to try it. It is a process and it maybe a painful one, but it is a nessecary one. A lot of these musicals will probably be produced through smaller production companies with the larger ones ditributing them, which is a good thing for the development of the movie musical.
As for the choice of bringing J&H to the big screen, it is a good choice for one reason. It is a hit in local theatres on high school, comunity, and regional levels, it has a growing popularity that is not limited to the broadway production. Plus it is a story everyone is familiar with, and we all know movie audiences like to see the same thing over and over again.

I agree, NO GERARD BUTLER!
I would go with Ethan Freeman in a second though. Maybe Hugh Panaro if he wasn't doing Lestat at the moment.
