Victor Garber and 'Night Music'

Posted: 1/4/05 at 1:39amVictor Garber is by far one of the most talented individuals ever in the theatre or film industry. Who could forget the fro in Godspell? Or his amazing 'Johanna' in the original cast of 'Sweeney Todd.' His John Wilkes Booth was equally astounding. Then he sort of disappeared from theatre, it seems. He started doing film work and then ALIAS (which is an excellent show and he's awesome on it). His step back into theatre was in an LA production of 'A Little Night Music.' There has been talks of a "Night Music" revival....one can only hope that he will play Frederick? Any other great Victor triumphs anyone wishes to discuss or thoughts on the 'Night Music' Casting???

There was a great thread about Victor Garber a few months ago, but it would be nice to discuss this very talented Canadian one more time.

Oh, a thread I can post in!
In a recent production of "A Little Night Music" at the Los Angeles Opera, I was fortunate enough to see a friggin' AMAZING cast perform. It was like Broadway orgasms.
Anyway, Victor Garber played Frederik. I personally enjoyed his performance tremendously, and I think he would be great in a future production as well.
Also, being an ALIAS fan as well, I was in heaven, because Jennifer Garner was a couple of seats from me. There was ALIAS, Broadway, and more Tony awards in that cast...it was an absolute night of heaven.
Where was I? Victor Garber -- he'll be marvelous!

This production also had two of the finest Desirees and Madame Armfelts I have ever seen. Judith Ivy-who shocked me she was so good-I thought she was going to be miscast (see I may be wrong) and Zoe Caldwell, one of the few Madame Armfeldts who got ALL of her laughs (other than Harmione Gingold). The rest of the cast ranged from good to miscast.
Just my opinion, I may be wrong.

I have to say that hands down.. the best Desiree ever in the entire world without a doubt was and will always be Judi Dench.
She tore your heart out. It was breathtaking.

Yes, her delivery of "Send in the Clowns" at the HEY MR. PRODUCER concert was a showstopper.
Out of curiosity, when has she performed in a production of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC?

Judi Dench was in A Little Night Music in 1995 in London.
Victor Garber was on Broadway at least a few times in the 90s - I saw him in Art around 1999, Damn Yankees in I think '93, and Arcadia at Lincoln Center in 1995.
I've seen some fabulous theater in my life, but nothing as good as Arcadia.
