I think its time for some West End shows to head over hear.
I can't wait to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and they said the show was great and I can't wait to see it. Im so ready to see "Mary Poppins" and "The Woman In White". I also think Joseph.... will do well over hear.
Why didn't "My Fair Lady" or "The Witches Of Eastwick" come to Broadway I would have loved to see those shows espeacially "My Fair Lady"

The Woman in White is headed this way next fall. Star, Maria Friedman, will be with it. No word yet on Michael Crawford, who just won the Variety Club award for Outstanding Stage Performance.

What's going to be on this spring? I'm going to London in April and I'm looking forward to dropping a lot of dough. (Even though theatre costs about double what it costs here when you consider exchange rates, eh?)

Sorry. I've had the impression that Broadway is tired of the British Invasion (or does that have to do with 80s mega-musicals?). I think they just want to do their own thing - Broadway stage their own shows - and leave West End to its own devices. But we'll see :) As for Woman in White, I'm really angry that it's happening at Minskoff Theatre - AND will be starring Michael Crawford. Is nothing sacred? That's the same place where Crawford ruined Steinman's Broadway career. If he has any dignity whatsoever he will not go to Broadway. And Andrew Lloyd Webber should show his old friend, Jim, some
respect - and not shove this down his throat like he has

Hey Tiff, "Billy Elliot," with music by Elton John, will be in previews in April. The book and lyrics are by Lee Hall and direction by Stephen Daldry, who both also worked on the movie. I hope you see it, I'm really curious about it. Here's the website:

There's always room for a good show, whether it originates on Broadway or in the West End, Rockfenris.

Still playing that one-note song? You know that old expression, "Get a life."

Michael Crawford, by the way, just won the UK Variety Club award for Outstanding Stage Performance of the year for his role in The Woman in White, and Andrew Lloyd Webber has a lot more to think of, unlike you, than the effect his new show might have on Jim Steinman---if it has any effect at all.

Hey, I'm on the Billy Elliot site right now. Does anyone know what a "stall" is, regarding seating in a theatre? They go for top dollar.

Edit because I can't read or do math properly.

I'm pretty sure that the stalls correspond to our orchestra seats.

ETA: Be sure to look at "The Search for Billy Elliot," which is a video featuring the song "Electricity" and a montage of the boys' auditions. The song is incredibly beautiful. Updated On: 12/5/04 at 09:08 PM

I will never accept the fact that Crawford got away with murder

He's a modern day Jack the Ripper

Uh huh. But I think the paleface speaks with forked tongue.

On another board you say,

"It wasn't all Crawford's fault. He went along
with his own problems. He is also to blame. He shouldn't have signed to the
part if it wasn't what he wanted, but the show was already ####ed at that stage.
They'd already transformed it from what it was in Vienna. They didn't transform
it for Crawford. It had already been transformed - at Sonenberg's request...'m ashamed that Steinman went along with it. I'm ashamed that he couldn't
find the conviction to put his foot down..."

That's true. But Crawford also didn't have the conviction to run away from it. That's true as well :)

I guess I am very complicated, not contradictory, with my opinions :)

Please, all DOTV fans and interested students, read that whole message at Rockman. It's very liberating. We need to 'commemorate' the 2nd anniversary

In London, the stalls are indeed the orchestra section.

Type a Tiff, Mary Poppins will also be playing in London at the time you're going to be there, and if you haven't seen Chitty yet, I highly recommend it.

"And Andrew Lloyd Webber should show his old friend, Jim, some

Webber's not doing it, Sonia Friedman is. Jim doesn't own the Minskoff and anything that plays there has nothing to do with him. Crawford has received great reviews in WIW, so he will probably come to with the show and will probably redeem himself.

Well, if someone else had shelled out the dough for Vampires, maybe it wouldn't have happened, but they didn't, and it did. Let it go.

The reason Broadway probably won't be seeing "Witches of Eastwick" in a hurry is because it flopped badly in Australia two years ago, losing something like 3 million dollars in four months, even though it developed a loyal cult following. Ultimately I think the production team felt they had done all they could with the property...they were still rewriting and restaging after opening night...and it was time to move on to other projects. The authors were talking of their "dream" leading man should it ever come to NY ( Patrick Swayze and Antonio Banderas were on the list) but I think the role of Daryl van Horne is a natural for Jack Black. And what roles for FOUR...count 'em FOUR...leading ladies!

i saw chitty chitty bang bang in london with my family and it was GREAT... i being the theatre-obsessed in the family knew who the car flew but everyone else was amazed and baffled. i bought the olc album at the show, and its pretty hard to find in the us, but amazon.co.uk has it, i believe. about mary poppins: i saw a really long movie of the cast performing a couple songs from the show and its great. i cant wait to see it!

Didn't Witches have a successful Russian production? As for Darryl Van Horn, Kevin Kline should be at the TOP of the list. It's as if the role was written for him. The show only needs a few minor changes in the score, but new sets would be greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed it.

"I also think Joseph.... will do well over hear."

The original production did fairly well running a year and a half, but the 1993 revival, considered to be a better production, flopped after six months. I don't think we'll be seeing it again anytime soon.

I do wish the Mackintosh production of My Fair Lady had crossed over. It was gorgeous! But I think Martine McCutcheon spoiled me with her performance. I honestly don't know if I would want to see anyone else play the part. She was PERFECT in the part. I didn't like Jonathan Pryce, but honestly, she completely overshadowed him in the show. The man who played Eliza's father (whose name escapes me) was also unbeatable. I was never a big My Fair Lady fan, but I would gladly see it over and over just for the two of them.
