Hi guys, I'm sorry about starting one of these threads, I know they're obnoxious and I hate them too...but I need to audition for "Schoolhouse Rock Live" blehh I know, but I couldn't think of a song that would fit the audition requirement:
Audition requirements
One song (preferably up tempo) that tells a story. You must prepare the song in two ways-- two different characters with two different objectives. You may sing a song from the show, if you like. No monologue or cold reading requirements.
WHat song? I am a male with a good baritone/tenor range. If I did "Fantasies Come True," what 2 characters would I sing as? Sorry, I don't know Schoolhouse Rock at all, and the characters even less.
I was thinking about The One-Feathered Tale is Gertrude McFuzz. Since Gertrude actually sings it in the third person, you could perform it as her (honest and sympathetic) and then as someone else entirely. Perhaps a malicious or snobby character (like Maizy) that could perform it in a condescending way, possibly even laughing and mocking Gertrude. It could work. I don't think it would matter if you're male or female, but if you're concerned about it, perhaps the same attitudes could apply to a different song.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
"Yesterday is done. See the pretty countryside. Merrily we roll along, roll along- catching at dreams."- Merrily we roll along
"The living was the prize, the ending's not the story."- Elegies, a song cycle
Sing one of the Narrator's songs from JOSEPH... . In their original keys they are good songs for a high baritone/easy tenor. 'You Are What You Feel' or 'Jacob and Sons' would be good choices.
And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...
