I thought this bizarre little confection was really something special. I'm just so glad my family had a chance to see it before it closed.

I think Jayne should win over Tyne Daly. For me, Daly did not have the pivotal role in Rabbit Hole. She merely gave a good performance that allowed Cynthia Nixon to improve her character. Jayne's performance makes the entire play. I think people discount it because it seems effortless within the wacky and comedic context of Well.

"This would seem to be the kind of play that could have had a long and successful run off-Broadway."

It did have a long and successful run Off-Broadway.

Vespertine1228, if you think Jayne's role was so pivotal, maybe it should be considered in the Leading Actress category.

WELL ran for 7 soldout weeks off-Broadway at the Public (it had been scheduled for 4, but was extended as long as it could given the Public's other commitments). I wouldn't call that a long run, though in artistic terms, it was quite successful garnering some of the best reviews, on or off-Broadway, that season.

Perhaps I should have said "long-er" and "successful-er."

I just wish it would have transferred to another Off-Broadway house.

Well, moving the show to Broadway would get it more publicity and prestige. Plus, with its great reviews, it could be up for awards, but I guess it just didn't work.

I don't believe that Jayne should be nominated for Best Actress. Her role is clearly not a lead, but she does have the best kind of supporting part. A part that directly affects the action, tone, and direction of the play in a short amount of time.

The monologue near the end she delivers from her chair was, for me, more real and touching than anything in Rabbit Hole, even though I liked that play a lot as well.

As a side note, I just realized the irony of the play closing on Mother's Day. Updated On: 5/8/06 at 10:59 PM

to me Tyne Daly gave the hardest and most convincing performance out of the 3 women. the question is if she'll be remembered or not. JH was good...but could suffer from the lack of Tony Voter just not caring to see WELL. de la Tour in my eyes is Daly's biggest competitor, but even as fantastic as she is in HB, her role just isn't that juicy and is rather one note droll.

Ive said it before - it'll be one of the evenings best competitions.
