Today is Thursday, May 6, marking the official opening of the new Ben Andron comedy White's Lies, which features Tony winner Betty Buckley (thru June WHITE'S LIES Reviews, Tuc Watkins and Peter Scolari, and Christy Carlson-Romano at New World Stages' Stage 4 following previews that began April 12. The cast also boasts Rena Strober, Andrea Grano and Jimmy Ray Bennett. Bob Cline directs.

"Some guys are scared stiff at the prospect of settling down, getting married, having kids and Joe White is no exception," according to White's Lies press notes. "He's a divorce lawyer, representing one of his many ex-girlfriends and above all else, he's a bachelor who wouldn't have it any other way. So when his mother desperately wants him to start a family, he'll do the next best thing: make one up! What could go wrong?"

On the personal tip, I caught the show on Saturday night (yes, THAT Saturday night). For what it was, I enjoyed myself. Took some time to 'settle-in' but definitely picked-up with the outlandish, loopy sitcom-esque approach. At intermission, those around me voiced their mixed opinions: Some liked it, some were turned-off at the 'lack of laughs'. On the whole, my whole reasoning to see this? Betty Buckley. if you take it for what it is, you'll find it a fun night out ... and thence to seeBetty Buckley's talents. Wasted.

Best to all involved.
