I have to say the only thing I liked about Wicked was the book. I always thought the show looked ugly and the songs are forgetable. Maybe I missed something??
I'm assuming you have never seen Starlight Express.
I think you are missing something! The costums are gorgeouse and the sets are just fine! I really dont see what you are talking about!
I think the original post is hurtful and does not consider the feelings of those who like Wicked. This is completely outrageous, and I cannot believe there are such ignorant and rude people on bww.com.
You think the book is good??!?
I think it looks fine.

I'm not entitled to an opinion? The sets are ugly - Oz looks ugly. The costumes of the people in Oz look ugly. The songs did nothing for me. Sorry. I mean, obviously, there is a reason it didn't win best musical.
You cannot have an opinion when your entire Subject contains capital letters.
Nor can you have an opinion that goes against what people who like Wicked think.
Not allowed. Sorry.
I'm not sure that most people judge a musical based on how "pretty" it looks... There are some musicals where visual attractiveness is inappropriate for the show.
Glinda's dress at the beginning and finale is awfully pretty though, in my opinion

TRy criticizing Xanadu. You get called names and the whole post gets deleted.
Shut up joe, you don't even live in New York!

Same happend to me with Xanadu.
Anyways, weren't you the one who called us all nasty? And for compared Cry Baby to Patti Lupone?
Of course, we must be nasty because we like Patti LuPone. I bet if Patti were in Wicked westcoast would've loved it.
Not only are we nasty, we're bullies!

I never call names- you must have me confused with WannaBeAFoster.
I LOVE the costumes but I've often thought the set was abit ugly, could be better!
Care to elaborate, westcoastdrama? What exactly did you hate...everything but the book? EVERYTHING, all costumes, all sets, all songs, all performers?
To each his own, but I don't think Wicked's design is ugly. I'm not too fond of the costumes in the Emerald City scenes but other than that I do like the look of the show. Especially that bubble dress as someone else mentioned :)
yes i would like to know-- it is always okay if you say you do not like something but you really should give examples and do them with a flair of education not just...
OZ is Ugly
The Costumes is Ugly
The Show is Ugly..
also-- you could use some other adjectives.... there are millions ya know.

I think one of the things that Wicked tries to do is show the "behind the scenes" of Oz and allow the audience to see the not so wonderful and beautiful side of Oz. That's what The Wizard of Oz is there for. First off, I think the set is very original and that Eugene Lee did not want to simply copy what the movie had already created. That would have been even more boring (intellectually). Second, I think the clock pieces and such are there to remind us that we are INSIDE Oz and that we're getting a behind the scenes glimpse. The thing that the writers constantly say is that they are showing us the "other side" of the story. Same goes for the music. I think the often jumbled tunes and the non-fluidity of the songs is there to represent the not so beautiful side of it. Just my two cents

I love it, the set is what i love most about wicked, so much so that if wicked were done in the "bubble gum" mode of the film i probably would hate the show.
Only costume I can't stand is Fyero's opening costume, it usually looks redicilous with that tight pants and high waistline, looks like a badly dressed waiter.
west village... shame we cannot hear the tone in someone's writing as I do believe the comments were meant to be sarcastic.
I personally loved the show. I though the sets were amazing. It did bring closer the cavern known as the Gershwin (home to another big musical Starlight Express)...
I loved the whole cracked on its head view of the show. I enjoyed the book very much and honestly thought that it would not be able to work onstage but it does. Yes they tweak it a bit (okay a lot..) but they do it for those of us who always want a bit of a Happy Ending in our Musicals.
My questions I guess is.. it is okay to find something like Wicked (which has such mass appeal to middle america) to be completely amazing. And also think that Argonautika by Mary Zimmerman (who did Metamorphises) a piece of brillience?
Why do we pick on those who like Wicked, Webber AND Sondheim.. not to mention others....
Maybe it IS okay to enjoy everything from ABBAMANIA to Zorba.

Only a twelve year old could think that was serious. The original poster (of this thread) created another thread that basically said "There are so many nasty people on bww.com". Of course my post was sarcastic. Only an idiot couldn't catch that.
