Argh. . .
I can't purchase tickets to Wicked's DC performance! I've been waiting months for these darn things to go on sale, and now that they're finally available to the public, the website's backed up, and the Theater's Box Office # is constantly busy.
Does anyone have an ideas of how to get tickets? Something that won't cost more than the actual price of the tix. I already know sites that are charging $250 per ticket. NO THANKS!!!

Considering they have a huge ad on their front page, and have been advertising like crazy, it does not surprise me that you can't get through. Coupled with the insane Wicked popularity that has swept this country (something I still don't get, but I digress), it could very well be that too many people are on the website right now.
I suggest waiting a bit, or maybe going down to the box office in person if you are in town. However, I know people who became members just so they could get these tickets before they went on sale (non-Broadway freaks, even), and they had slim pickings in the first and second tiers.
Its crazy, I know. I like Wicked, saw it a few times with the OBC, but have no intention of adding to this mania. Hope you can get through today and can get something!

Did you actually not get through the box office, or were you put on hold?
And the website is working for me now, so you may want to try again. Ok, so I'm 526 in line for tickets, but whatever. I didn't even know websites had lines.

Posted: 10/3/05 at 2:47pmKinda on-the-topic I got tickets for Dec 27, my seats are second tier row A, seats 123 and 125. Never having seen a show at the Kennedy Center, how high are these seats, I assume I'll see everything fine, but will I still be in the line of motion or watching the top of the actors' heads the whole time? Thanks.

The Kennedy Center has one of the best seating charts I've seen, so I figured I'd post it here so others can get an idea. I haven't been there in years, but the tiers are rather low and far enough back so that you have a pretty decent view of the full stage.
Ah, sorry, I knew it was the opera house- the red one! I just clicked the wrong link. Here's the right picture. There's also a lovely virtual tour at their website if you can get through.

Orange Skittles, I believe you posted the seating chart of the concert hall. Wicked is playing in the opera house.
Thanks for changing it. I was going to update it myself, but the Kennedy Center Website is down at the moment.

I just spent money I probably shouldn't have on tickets. I hate when you do something that feels right and you almost immediately regret it.
Which is ridiculous, because I've already volunteered to be a chaperone for my sister's high school orchestra trip to see the show, and my family may be going to see it anyway.

I've never sat in the second tier, but having been in the Opera House many times, I am fairly certain you won't have a problem in seeing everything, albeit slightly far away. The sightlines are excellent If you are in the front row of the tiers, you might have difficulty seeing over the railing, if you are short, but that is about it. Even then, you can easily fix this by leaning forward. Generally, all the KC theatres are very well designed.
Enjoy the show (and the mania!).

Oh well, maybe I'm just not supposed to get ahold of these tickets.
The number for the box office is CONSTANTLY busy, and I've waited in line for tickets 2x online, and both times, the server got so busy that it crashed.
I guess I'll see what happens in a few hours, maybe I can pick up people's scraps.

Seriously, give up on the website and use the phone. I got down to the last 150 people "in line" and the server went down and I lost my place. I may have been on hold for an hour, but I did get through and got my ticket. And the woman first told me all the orchestra/box seats that were still available for the date I wanted.
Edit: I just checked the website again and there were 1386 people ahead of me!
Maybe the Kennedy Center will learn from this and start selling their tickets through Ticketmaster instead of being old-school elitists.

Posted: 10/3/05 at 6:38pmGeez....Got tixs for the show in St. Louis and had a relatively easy time compared to those in D.C. I also went to the Kennedy Center website, as I have family in the area and had considered going up over the holidays. When I went to the site this morning I was 370 in line! Good luck to those in D.C.

Just checked again to see how things have changed.
Every single performance is sold out.

Not really surprised at this - they were actually doing unanounced web sales yesterday and I couldn't find two cheap tickets next to each other then, can only imagine the feeding frenzy that things were today.
Ah well, time to wait for SRO information.

Posted: 10/4/05 at 12:12amOkay, I'm just a tad confused. From my information, tickets went on sale the 1st, that's when I got mine. I mean I've bought tickets to things before at the Kennedy Center and have an account, did I get tickets before everyone or something? Not at all complaining, just a tad curious.

Every where I looked, including the Kennedy Center website said they weren't going on sale until October 3rd. But the same thing happened with See What I Wanna See, the tickets went on sale online a few days before unannounced. I hate when people get shady like this.
Someone's already selling Wicked DC tickets on ebay. Ridiculous prices too, I pity anyone who's that desperate.

I have a friend in West Virginia that I knew I had to take to see this, she knows all the songs b/c I play them so much for her lol, so I've been keeping a close eye on the kennedy center website for months and it sdaid Oct 1 and I wrote the date down in my calendar. Hmm...i dunno...weirdness.

That sucks. I managed to get on the website on Sunday (Oct. 2). I could have sworn that it was supposed to be on sale to the public like the 5th or something. I couldn't find two tickets next to each other so I bought a cheap ticket for myself. But it's in the middle of the week at 1:30.
If I had known that, I would have bought more and sold it on eBay!
