WICKED becomes the 1st Broadway show to reach 1 Million Facebook Fans

I know this isn't a big deal or anything, but they announced it on their wall this morning. If you are a fan of WICKED on Facebook, then you may be featured on their cover photo, because to celebrate everyday this week 2 of their fans will be honored on the cover photo.

If "Wicked" announced that, then they are actually wrong. "The Lion King" has 1.2 million fans on Facebook already... they hit 1 million fans on April 17, when it was announced "The Lion King" was the first musical to reach 1 million fans.

EDIT: I just went to the Wicked page, and didn't see an announcement that they were the first show to do so, just a celebration of the milestone. But, since I haven't "liked" the page, there may be something I can't see?

Oh really? They announced a few weeks ago they were just a few thousand away from becoming the first, so maybe the Lion King hit a million after they announced that? Or maybe WICKED was just wrong.

It doesn't say that it was the 1st Broadway show to reach 1 million fans. Here's what it says:
We are thrilled to have reached 1,000,000 Facebook fans! Thank you to all our WICKED friends who have been with us along this journey. YOU are the reason WICKED is the most Popular show on Broadway. We will celebrate the occasion every day this week by selecting two Facebook fans at random to honor in our cover photo. We couldn't have done it without you!

Wicked Fanatic, that was today's post. I never said that they announced to be the first today. What I said was that a few weeks ago they announced they were a few thousand away from being the first. So if anyone beat them to it, it must have been after they made that post.

Okay, curiosity got the better of me and I hit up the pages on Facebook.... Here's what I found out:

APRIL 2: "Wicked" post: "Attention Ozians! Help WICKED become the first Broadway show to reach 1 million fans on Facebook. Share this post with your friends and encouragerize them to "like" our official page."

APRIL 17: "The Lion King- Musical" hit 1 million fans on Facebook.

AUGUST 26: "Wicked" hit 1 million fans on Facebook.

So, I think it's pretty clear that "Wicked" was not the first, although they "announced" they were close back in April.

Wicked, Newsies, and Lion King are the only pages I refuse to like on Facebook. I have liked pretty much every other show.

More impressive is Next to Normal's follow count on Twitter. They beat Wicked by over 900,000.
