Honey, it wont.

It was a flop, if by some mirivle the tour is a complete sell out (and it would have to be to re-coup) then perhaps it would go back into the West End, but i would say 99% it wont. Producers always say "we hope to return to London" but very rarley do - Jailhouse Rock/Bombay Dreams all said in a few years we willcome back but no news...

The Woman In White will never haunt the West End again!!

How was it a flop? I don't think it ran for as long as producers thought or hoped it would, but it certainly wasn't a failure. An original musical adapted from a book written over 100 years ago running for over 1 year seems pretty good going to me in this age of Disney stage shows and movie-stage adaptations.

"It was a flop"

This isn't right, it ran for 20 months. It is a flop if you compare it to other ALW shows like Cats and Phantom, but wasn't that unsuccessful. Especially in the era, that LondonTheaterUK points out, that has moved past ALW.
I'm very sad that the show is closing so soon. It is a great score, and deserves better. Did it have at all to do with the current cast? I saw the original with Crawford, and was curious how the replacements did. Were the other Fosco's good? Just speculating...

To repeat what has been said on other forums - a show is flop if it has not paid back its initial investment. The Woman in White in London hasn't, simple as that. I like the show and will be going on the last night, but you can't avoid the fact that even with a run of 18 months (end of August '04 to Feb '06) it's lost money (though that may be re-couped through the tour)

I love the show (i have seen it twice and am going to the last night) but it has not done as well as other Andrew Lloyd Webber shows. i think that this i mainly because of the competition. if you can only see Phantom of the Opera OR woman in white most people would chose Phantom.

I saw the show last night! I thought the show itself was not my favorite, but the cast absolutely amazing.

I had a WONDERFUL conversation with the girl who played Laura (Alexandra). She could NOT have been sweeter! and I got pics with her and Ruthie, as well as Damien (Walter Hartright).

That was one of the best stage door experiences EVER, and I wasn't even gonna go, it was just like, hey..let's see if we can tell them how great they are...lol
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

" but it certainly wasn't a failure."

A failure is NOT a flop.

Flop = financial.

A failure is a critical mess. Disaster. What have you. I don't think the WiW did well with the critics.

Therefore, despite whether or not you enjoyed it, it was a flop and a failure. F squared.

When the book was written, and how long the show played, mean nothing.

Jekyll & Hyde ran 4 years (FOUR!) ~ never recouped its initial investment, was not a critical success...thus, also F squared.

I'm glad you liked Damian & Ali, they are both friends of mine and are both so lovely - as is Ruthie of course!

As to an earlier comment about the quality of the current cast - it's AMAZING! I saw the original cast (only exception was Michale Ball as Fosco - who, in my opinion has been the best) and much prefer this one, especially Ruthie as Marion - SHE IS AMAZING!! Sadly her contract finishes this weekend so if you haven't seen her yet and you have got the chance I recommend you do!!!

You are lucky to be friends with them, they could not have been more talented, or MORE adorable and nice!!

I think I can speak for both my friends in saying her talking to us acutally meant a lot. Coming from someone fresh out of school, and that amazing, and already successful! Nobody deserves it more :)
