Any word on what's happening with Wildhorn's new show, "Waiting for the Moon." (I'm pretty sure that's the name, but I may be wrong). In my American Lit 2 class today we talk about Fitzgerald and I find him to be quite fascinating. His life, and his wife, were both so very interesting and I could see why Wildhorn would want to base a musical on them. Zelda ends up in an insane asylum (sp?) which burns down with her inside of it. Did they portray that in the show at all?

I wish I could listen to a couple of songs of it. And yes, the title's correct. And I don't think the show provides all the sombre stuff.

Is the show based on anything or did the writers just sort of pick and choose things from Fitzgerald's life?

The last news I heard was from Wildhorn's website, which said there was going to a production in North Carolina in the summer of '07. It said at the time of the notice that both Lauren Kennedy and Jarrod Emick were still attached to the project.
Having seen the premiere at Lenape, I have to say, the show is about Zelda Fitzgerald. And yes, her breakdown, the asylum, the fire... it's all there, and it was beautiful.
I'd love to see it make its way back up here sometime.

I'm glad they're taking their time on it and working out the kinks. I think it could work in NYC since it's not Wildhorn's usual big, lavish type show. I think that era in musical theater is pretty much over. We'll see what Pirate Queen does.

I saw the production and loved it! It was an incredible show and not one of Wildhorn's usual. The music was all swing and jazz and it DID include Zelda's emotional breakdown, the fire, etc. It is a gorgeous script and even better music. The lyrics could use a bit of work and I also think that more characters can be developed. Scott & Zelda are very developed, but they're really the only characters we care about. More characters can be introduced and given more singing opportunities.
I saw it also. Much of the story line is accurate. It has its heavy moments while Zelda is in confinement, for sure. But most of the focus is on Scott & Zelda's rise to fame, whirlwind adventures and problematic marriage.
Lots and lots of very snazzy dancing with a top choreographer(Blakenbueller), beautiful sets and costumes. Really, very different score. Much of it quite enjoyable. It needs a bit of work in the presentation and character development. And my understanding is that Vincent Marini and Frank Wildhorn are doing just that before it opens next summer in NC. It has potential, imo.
In fact "Moon" is up for 9 Barrymore awards that will take place Mon 10/25 @ Merriam Thea. Philly. The creative team (Murphy, Wildhorn and Marini) will attend and Lauren Kennedy & Jarrod Emmick are scheduled to perform from the show. Should be fun!

Any clips of the show?
It seems to be that it's always the lyricist's fault for most of the "big composers" - ALW and Wildhorn (Schwartz has no one to blame but himself). I hope they fix the problems.
So it's being billed as a pre-Broadway tryout? Nice. I hope to see it on B'way soon.
No clips have been offered publically as of yet. That can be a risky thing, especially when the creative team is still tweeking this. People often judge a show by a 60 second clip.
But the premier at Lenape was very well supported and a number of people are watching this one.

Any update on Wildhorn's "Zelda" (Waiting For The Moon)? The songs are beautiful.
Lauren Kennedy's solo album "Here and Now" features "Easy" from Waiting For The Moon is just a wonderful song. You can sample it in iTunes. I hope to see this production mounted on Broadway.
Frank's put in it away for a little from what I have heard. Right now, most of the focus is on: Count of Monte Cristo (Concept Album starring Brandi Burkhardt out this winter, reportedly), Havana, Camille Claudel, and some tweaking with Alice. Dracula, the musical may open in some other European locations, and Frank is still working with that all-female company in Japan.
No matter how good it is the critics, including his detractors here, will trash it.
Thank you!
