I'm guessing not since the other nominees were all new musicals and this is a revival. However, I'm not sure this award was around in 1970-1971 when company debuted. I didn't even know that this existed until I saw it tonight too!
Anyways, if it was eligible, it should have atleast been nominated!!!!!! To take a score and do all the instrumentations for what all of the actors could play......when they were not singing or speaking is incredible!!!!!! I'm glad the woman in charge of this was thanked during the speech by the producer(s) when it won for best revival.
