Well, while most of the original cast of A Chorus Line was not well-known to the general public, most had been featured dancers in shows for years and were known to the real theatre fans. Had there been a BWW back in 1975, several posters would have recognized the names Priscilla Lopez, Baayork Lee, Carole (later Kelly) Bishop, and Robert Lupone.
And Donna McKechnie was very well known at the time. She wasn't quite famous, but she been featured in a couple of major shows (COMPANY, PROMISES PROMISES) and had been chosen along with Gwen Verdon, Helen Gallagher and Paula Kelly to open the 1973 Tony Awards as one of the elite triple threats on Broadway.
So, it wouldn't be out of character for Avian etc ... to cast someone with something of a "name" to play Cassie and, given they're going to be looking mostly at veteran chorus people, I certainly imagine that many of us here will recognize several of the performers they cast in the other roles.
I get your point Margo, I know that Donna had actually a somewhat important role in Company, she had the solo in "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" and she had a dance solo too and Priscilla Lopez was in Pippin but I thought the rest of the cast was pretty much unknown. I hope they get chorus dancers that have done like 100 shows but have not yet gotten their big break.

I don't knwo if it's really her or not, but I have a downloaded version of "I Feel Nothing" and it says its by Priscilla Lopez. Whether or not it is, I think it's one of the best songs (lyric and singing wise) in my downloaded plethora of a collection.
LAURA BENANTI as Maria, maybe?
Its interesting - I was about to type something and than realized that I already typed long ago when this thread was first created.
One thing ALL the creative team is in agreement on is that for Broadway, the show needs to be cast very young. Don't expect any of the names listed here to be in the cast when it actually happens.

Natalie Cortez does not have the range to sing Maria, she'd be devine as Anita though.

WSS was put on in San Jose by the AMTSJ last OCT. Diana Degarmo played Maria and was awesome and we all know she can hit all the notes. Her duet with Anita (Hunter) was sizzling and Tony's death finale brought tears to your eyes.
