Bleach, Borax and Brighteners........THE 3 Bs...............; that is how I first recall Barney Martin, doing that t.v. commercial.........I don't recall the product, but I remember his "three Bs."
He was sublime in the original Broadway production of CHICAGO. He was touching and had a fine singing voice. In a different year he would certainly have been Tony nominated for creating the part of Amos.
It was interesting that when Liza filled in for the ailing Gwen Verdon in CHICAGO, that of course, Barney Martin played her husband Amos. A couple of years later, Barney Martin played her Father in the film ARTHUR. So he went from playing Liza's hubby to her Dad in not too long a period of time. I believe a couple of year after CHICAGO he was one of the stars of the Broadway musical WORKING. I met him very briefly once. He seemed like a sweet man. My thoughts are with his family and those who loved him.
