Tourists are still alive and thus can recognize humor. Whereas local New Yorkers are generally soulless and dead inside so often miss humor when it is presented to them.

Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

I'm a New Yorker, artscallion-and I sure found humor in bits of "Glass Menagerie". (Not to a point where I was completely roaring inappropriately.)
