Thought I'd throw this out there from the "King of Broadway News," Paul Wontorek:

http://www.stage-rush.com/2011/02/broadway-com-editor-in-chief-paul-wontorek-interview/

“I do think that we’re in a weird turning point. The critical community and this weird, gossipy, insidery fan community—I don’t think they’re really in touch with what people want to see. It’s a really stubborn, small community, and I’m proud to say I’m not part of it.”

“When someone is going to see a Broadway show, they want an event. They want to see something that they’re going to be able to go home and brag to their friends about. Whether it’s a guy dressed as Spider-Man flying over their heads or a movie star 20 feet away—these are exciting moments.”

Off-putting subject line, but an interesting article.

Isn't Broadway.com's MO to sell tickets? It certainly seems that way when you go to the site. Of course the editor-in-chief is going to say that discounted tickets are a problem and that soaring ticket prices aren't.

Wontorek's own off-puting words, "weird, insidery fans" and his own idea of what they are not in touch with excitement wise. That intrigued me much more than the obvious fact that he is out to sell full-price tickets.
