Rude Awakening was their greatest ever!
Now I can't wait to see how they deal with Patti and Kelli.

What was the In The Heights one like?

Posted: 6/29/08 at 3:04pmAfter being in the city for a month and seeing 23 shows, we sadly must leave on Tuesday morning. Tonight we'll see Forbidden Broadway -- spoofing many of the shows we've seen. If the new stuff is only half as funny as some of the new stuff in Special Victims Unit and Rude Awakening, I can't wait.

OK, saw it tonight. I felt there wasn't much new stuff at all. There was an In the Heights bit -- some Latino rap that involved Maria from West Side story appearing with a gun with an extra bullet for Stu. I thought that whole bit was sort of lame and didn't really go anywhere.
Other than the passing reference to the bullet for Stu, there was nothing about Passing Strange which could have offered a gold mine of opportunity. Nothing about Cry Baby or Glory Days either.
The title opener was three guest celebrity judges for Dancing with the Stars -- Sarah Jessica Parker, Elaine Stritch, and Carol Channing rating Mario for his performance in Chorus Line -- mildly funny.
"Everything's Coming up Patty" was pretty cute. But why wasn't she wearing house slippers (Isotoners)? A good opportunity missed.
South Pacific was mainly "Some Endangered ______?" Sorry, I just drew a blank, but the Paul Szot drinking Viagra from a gallon jug and saying "I use the same accent for Spanish and Italian too" was funny.
The best parts were the old ones -- and the ones from last years "Rude Awakening" version. Was the "On My Phone" to "On My Own" bit from Les Miz new? I didn't remember it.

The new Cheno number was hysterical and Bianco is incredible.
It was her first performance in the show so I was blown away.
I loved Gina's Patti number. Her impersonation was nothing short of outstanding. It was only the second preview, I can't wait to see the improvements. Bianco is a natural star.
My favorite number was cut. I love the Curtains number (SLOW PEOPLE) Hope they bring it back. I also loved the new YF number.
I wont talk about it as I don't want to spoil it but it was hysterical.
They really could do a funny number with Harvey Fierstein singing WHAT'S INSIDE IS JUST A LIE" as Coleman. Watch Jared do it on the tape, its priceless.

Oh. I forgot the Young Frankenstein number -- "Putting up with SH*T". Yes -- funny.
And I agree that newcomer Christine Bianco has a terrific voice. When she went off on the Candide stuff as Kristen, it was wonderful -- major soprano there.
