This past December 27th, I took time from my day (currently vacationing in Orlando) to travel to an internet cafe. I spent an half hour searching all the media Sites, and my time was wasted.

PETER PAN turned 100 years old this past Monday. I had expected to see the CNN ticker read "Peter Pan Celebrates 100th Anniversary Today, First Play Performed In London" or something to that affect. I expected to read articles on CNN.com, FoxNews.com, and ESPECIALLY Playbill.com!!

Alas, no media Site WHATSOEVER mentioned it.

Now a few months ago when POPEYE turned 75, the media went nuts.

I'm sorry - I thought 100 was a more important number than 75. I'm sorry - I thought PETER PAN was more popular than POPEYE. Sure, POPEYE was a cartoon and a movie, but PETER PAN was a silent film, a live-action film, an animated film, an animated sequel, a television cartoon series, a play, a musical, and a classic novel.

One media Site did something - the BBC in the UK, which doesn't air in the US.

Am I wrong? Why no mention AT ALL? Why give it to POPEYE?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
