Igloo, did you ever think of taking out a BOOK from the library? Reading is fundamental, you know.

I want a three page report on the inter-chapters in GRAPES OF WRATH.

Dollypop is just thinking "wishfully" due to the extreme heat!
Sure...but I daresay that Sparknotes would do a better job than I.
English isn't exactly my first language...

I want you to report on what the inter-chapters are, why Steinbeck chose to use them and what their over-all impact is on the work.
You will be graded.
O_O.
But I...I..don't want to...
I read GoW in one day because my teacher decided to test us on the summer readig we were supposed to do(i know...seriously, who actually reads summer reading?)...I skipped all of those interchapters. Thankfully it was the reading test the standard class takes (it was AP English).
From what I remember it was a good book

Igloo, how can you DARE imply that you don't want to do this? Do you know how I can punish you? I'll lock you in a closet with Liam for a weekend. That's how I'll punish you!

Those local color inter-chapters annoyed me after a while when I read that novel. I understood their purpose, but they broke up the narrative too much for me.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I LOVE John Steinbeck! Last summer I held my first annual "Steinbeck Summer" and read like 7-8 of his novels. I had read Grapes of Wrath a few years ago in high school, but I think it's about time to open it up again.
I went to the library today too and got A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - my all-time favorite, non-Harry Potter, book. I thought I owned it, but can't find it anywhere...
I tried to find Light in the Piazza but our stupid library doesn't have it! Grr!

I really enjoyed Kristin's CD. It really showcases her skill. Wow. I'm really impressed by her.
Listening to A Little Night Music...still not seeing the great thing about Sondheim...but maybe after listening to these...10 other CD's it'll dawn on me.

Yeah I just made a library trip recently and FINALLY got "Into the Woods", and also picked up "Nine" and "A Little Night Music". I loved the first two, but I just could never bring myself to listen to the whole "..Night Music"... wasn't too thrilling for me. But have fun with Charlie Brown!!

My social studies teacher made us watch the movie because we were covering the Great Depression. I was so bored.
"Into The Woods" is probably your safest bet if you want a good introduction to Sondheim. His music is an acquired taste. You have to tune your ear before you can really enjoy it.
Yeah, I have Into the Woods. I think I'm still in the mind of Wicked and RENT, is all.
ITW was my first Sondheim - and was a perfect introduction. (Actually, I may have seen WSS before that, but I don't count that). A Litte Night Music may be one of his least accessible scores -- even after all these years there're still parts I don't get -- like Liasons -- no matter how many times I listen to it, I just don't how this song is in the same score as The Miller's Son, Send in the Clowns, A Weekend in The Country, and You Must Meet My Wife - the latter two being some of the best lyrics in the entire musical theater canon!
"A weekend in the country, we should try it..."
"How I wish we'd been asked"
"A weekend in the country, peace and quiet"
"We'll go masked.."
"A weekend in the country"
"Uninvited, they'll consider it odd"
"A weekend in the country, I'm delighted!"
"Oh my God."
Maybe I don't realize how genius Sondheim really is because I don't know...how hard it is to write lyrics. I know that it's hard to fit in lyrics to such complicated melodies...but for some reason, I'm not realizing HOW hard it is. Because my lyrics go as far as
Hello, how are you?
My name is Tom.
I'm 46 and balding,
and I live with my mom.

You really think ALNM is inaccessible? Maybe it's because I have a background in classical, but I actually found this score to be lovely from the first time I listened to it. Now, something like Anyone Can Whistle or Sunday in the Park With George- that can get relatively inaccessible.
Aigoo, maybe Company or Follies will be more up your alley.
