Posted: 10/9/04 at 10:50pmI don't know of any one definite most demanding role, but for me, one of the most demanding, vocally and emotionally, is Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Hi Callitquits, :)
Yes--I agree. Although show is titled JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, most people do not recognize major role is Judas.
(Did you happen to catch original Judas, Ben Vereen?)

Posted: 10/10/04 at 3:51pmFrom my own experience, I can say that the leading male in LITTLE ME has a pretty damn demanding job. It calls for the actor t o play seven roles, be onstange the entirte show with literally seconds for costume changes, plus a slew of songs all sung in various accents and styles. I give Sid Caesar and Martin SHort a ton of credit for tackling this on broadway. After a just a week of the show, I collapsed.

Norma Desmond seems pretty demanding.
Oh and any charactor from CATS (just cause you have to be in those humiliating costumes and all)

Hey Theatreboy... :)
Great to hear they're still doing LITTLE ME!
I think if I did the part, I probably would've have STAYED IN BED during the King's Death Scene and NEVER gotten back out!
Could you please sing "Real Live Girl" (one of my all time favorites) for me? :)

Posted: 10/10/04 at 5:45pmI think that swings must have a very demanding job, learning so many things. Also, chorus roles are hard because you end up doing so much, sometimes as much as the main characters, only you're not showcased....in my opinion, of course.

Posted: 10/10/04 at 8:22pmThe most demanding role on Broadway was the Peter Allen role played superbly by Hugh Jackman. Mr. Jackman had to carry the entire show on his shoulders and he did it with ease. Without Hugh Jackman, there basically was no show. With him, the show was a memorable evening in the theater.
