Hello. Let's see... the only artist I've ever given gifts to has been to Miss Patti: flowers, a rainbow colored beanie teddy bear, a humor book about Texas, a biography on Maria Callas and a video/documentary on Adelina Patti...a distant relative.

Posted: 1/5/08 at 12:29amI've never really understood giving the casts of shows gifts, although I think people who do put a lot of thought into them. Maybe I'm just not that imaginative. I could see making a card or something if a performer moves you.

I mailed my holiday cards from NYC and had one left over, so I left it with someone working at the stage door of the Hilton for Megan Mullally. It was basically me thanking her for coming to the stage door when she didn't have to and making my trip extra memorable and telling her what a big fan I am of her - not just on W&G but also SMP and her talk show and her other various roles. It was entirely unlike me and I can't help thinking that maybe it was a little weird.
Then again, maybe she gets things like that all the time.
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

I made commermorative mugs for Kerry Butler & Cheyenne Jackson after Xanadu opened (with all pics below) and I think they both liked it a lot. Actually Kerry saw me about a month later & remembered & thanked me again for it. She's such a doll
I love her a lot.

I gave Hugh Panaro a small plush wolf on the first night of "Lestat" previews.
During a talk at the stage door before he left "The Phantom of the Opera," he'd made a passing reference to the wolf hunt scene in the Rice novel. I remembered the conversation when I saw some toy wolves in a souvenir shop in Montreal so I got one for him.
A couple days after I gave him "Little Gray Buddy," I heard that he brought it to rehearsals, swapped it for the life-sized wolf prop, and did the whole "wolfkiller" scene over this tiny little plush toy.

Posted: 1/5/08 at 11:17amI made Maria Friedman a wonderfully elaborate scrapbook highlighting her career. I gave it to her at her cabaret at the Carlyle which she immensely enjoyed and let me stay as she showed it to Sondheim who was sitting at a table in the back! Amazing experience!

I sent a birthday card and a christmas card to JLY.
My sister gave JLY a bag of green MM's(his New Year's Resolution last year was to eat more greens and he does love chocolate).
To say thanks for the backstage tour, my mom made JLY an Irish soda bread.

Years ago when John Barrowman was in Putting It Together in LA, I gave him a box of See's Candy before the curtain time, he said "I LOVE chocolates" (who wouldn't??)
There was a talk back session after the show and John came out with handful of chocolates I gave him :)

Was that the same little plush wolf that made it onto the Broadway.com videos Lestat did? If so, very cute!
Let's see. My friend and I gave JLY a small scrapbook of things regarding Bellevue/Omaha, Nebraska... since he lived here for part of his childhood and did a lot of theatre around here. He really loved it and it was a lot of fun to make.
At the closing show of The Wedding Singer, I gave Kevin Kern some poker chips and cards. I realize he probably already owned them, but eh... I thought it was a fun little gift since he and half of the cast played poker pretty much whenever they weren't actually performing, lol. I also gave Kevin a card when he left Altar Boyz.
I gave Scott Porter a "Kiss Me, I'm A Pirate" shirt while he was still in Altar Boyz. That's an inside joke for most of the old Altarholics...
And I think that's it.

I almost forgot something else.
Back in July, my friend Jaimie and I went to see Grey Gardens together and we picked up really cute leopard jewelry since we know Christine Ebersole loooves leopard. She looked like she was going to cry when we gave her the jewelry.
One of our friends saw the show a few days later, and Christine was wearing the jewelry:
That's the earrings and necklace we gave her.

I gave Sierra Boggess
The lighting is a bit odd though. I didn't have much time to do it so it was a bit rushed. I also wrote a letter and provided her my email address on the back of the painting. She emailed me back New Year's Day with a thank you, etc, etc
And here's a video on youtube of pictures I took during the process:

Posted: 1/5/08 at 8:33pmI know at Wicked, before it officially opened, I gave small Glinda and Wicked Witch dolls to Kristen and Idina. Kristen was about my height and it was probably one of the best experiences ever, for about two other people were there and that was it. Very uncrowded. Also, on the closing night of Drowsy, I gave the entire cast a large picture which had the various roles being portrayed by the characters of my comic strip, with each of them saying my favorite lines. Bob Martin took it home to Canada, making me the happiest person there. However, I completely forgot to ask why the opening night for "The Drowsy Chaperone" (You know, the show with in the show) was the same day as my birthday (September 18th)

Posted: 1/5/08 at 9:05pmI haven't really given anyone gifts. The closest thing I can think of is when I saw Grey Gardens on Christine Ebersole's birthday and we all sang to her at the stage door. Funny stuff.
